IMO this is pretty significant. Sam Williams absorbing Fowler snaps gives him close to 600. Lawrence barely went over 600 snaps last year. Its unlikely they would give Williams that heavy a workload. Gholston got 300 last year, and was pretty underwhelming especially against the run.

DE is a position fans need to be open to in the first. Especially if Latu, Verse or Chop is on board
Sam Williams can replace Fowler's snaps.

They need too replace Armstrong's DE snaps; however, I don't know that number because Armstrong played many snaps as a pass rushing DT.

Tyrus Wheat got a few snaps at DE last season which was surprising considering he was the 6 DE on the game day depth chart and 11th or 12th DLineman on the depth chart.
- Most D-Coordinators use a 4-man DE rotation and 8-man DL rotation.
- Quinn often used an 11 or 12 man DL rotation which is rare.
- Even "play the run on the way to the QB" D-Coordinator Marinelli, normally only used an 8 man DL rotation.

You seem to have this fascination with Ridgeway, you can't give that up AC.
Big boy would help us better than what we had last year in the middle. Ridgeway put up better stats as a rotational piece than Johnathan Hankins last year.

RE: Parsons, Williams, Wheat
LE: DLaw, Golston, Fehoko

Looks like the Cowboys needs a guy who can come in and compete with Sam n Chauncey for snaps. So, a rotational guy not anything crazy. If one of those top DEs fall, Dallas would have to consider it.

In theory Gholston fits that interior flex somewhat. However last year he was the opposite of what he was supposed to be coming out. He was weak against the run but solid as a pass rusher. It will be interesting to see if Zimmer uses him

Most DCs would use him at DT on passing downs and DE on run downs.
- Quinn played him at DT on almost all snaps in 2023.
- Based on reviewing game footage, I would take Golston at DT over Gallimore, run or pass.

Fans who just think we can "develop" our own and fix it all...comical. I mean, Jerry leaves us no choice but to dream, but still. Williams delivers crushing penalties at the worst possible time. Yeah, let's have more of that.

Dont you mean the jones boys ??
Fans dont choose who to draft, and whether they approve or not is meaningless.

I am sure jerry is aware of the 717 snaps and will take appropriate steps to get those snaps back.

And regardless, less is more, do more with less all come into play.

But dont worry jerry has all these things and the solutions mapped out.

Scary that the owner is relying on Sam Williams to start and be good. Its crazy. He is a low IQ player, a bonehead that happens to be really talented.
This is where Zimmer comes in...reads Williams the riot act (privately) about him eliminating his bonehead plays..and challenging him to straighten up and perform to his abilities to be an anchor + leader on the 2024 Cowboys defense.

We will take a little more weight off Mazi and move him out to edge

The Cowboys will be moving Fehoko back out to end in Zimmer's scheme, and possibly Golston, who had been playing more inside in Quinn's scheme. They will most likely absorb some of the early snaps. However, if they do that, it puts a greater need on adding more DT help.

I will be a bit surprised if we use a first on a DE. We've got Lawrence as a starter, Parsons there on passing downs and a second-rounder that we've underutilized to this point. I think the front office is going to want to give Williams a full look before it addresses DE early. Depth could be added, but it really depends on how Zimmer views the two tweeners. If he views them as ends, then we've got five draft picks at end (Parsons, Lawrence, Williams, Golston and Fehoko).

No he isnt. He makes occasional splash plays, but he is very poor at setting the edge
The answer is somewhere in the middle.
Sam played like and the scheme in Dallas called for pass rush first, second and third priority.
PFF has Sam basically as the same level rush defender as Micah Parsons.--middling at best.
But you can see that Sam plays with pure power and "could be" a very good run defender.
I do think Mike Zimmer will really like him. --if he is coachable to technique. big IF.
But Dorance was a WORSE run defender last year. PFF scores Sam 7 points better.

What's clear with Sam, DLaw and Fehoko, Zimmer is getting the old school bigger DL he likes.
And of course he gets Micah as his meta gem Pass Rusher.
Dallas "can" take a DE if the value is great but it's really low in priority as far as needs go.
They have a firm 2-deep.
Can add a safety net vet like Calais Campbell after the draft.
