Didnt they give up 10 mil cap and a 4th for that 2018 2nd?

right - that is the trade.
they traded cap space for primarily the 2nd round pick.
we have the cap flex to get the 2nd round pick

Most assume present value 3rd equals 2018 2nd. If so, you gave up 10 mil cap and 15 mil cash to swap a 4th for a 3rd

Then you have to actually pay the player going forward

you only have to pay for 2017 because that is the guaranteed year.
if you have the cap flexibility and not signing big contracts, why not get a 2nd round pick.

houston traded osweiller for a 2018 2nd and 2017 6th for a 2017 4th.
osweiller costs $16M in base salary and $3M in cap hit from signing bonus.
we could have easily cleared up $13M from restructuring dez and tcrawford.
should be able to scrap up another $6m in cap space from other contracts.
we would have a backup qb and a 2018 2nd round pick...

I am curious as to the thought process of the post.

Not denigrating it. It's intriguing.
Yet I have that feeling I get when the car salesman tells me he'll buy my car, give me a better interest rate, and sell me a loaded, metallic blue station wagon that costs $22,000 that will be a testament to my sharp negotiating skills and sense of elegance.

So the odds of getting a starter in the 2nd is about 50%

It turns out that they paid 16 mil
You can get a good player for 16 mil
Plus they gave up a 4th too

Anyway we dont know if the offer was there for everyone

yea, let's start doing what the browns do. what can go wrong?

you'd think below is a mass concert or something. no. it's all the former cleveland qb's having a quick get together.

Slushy is pulling our collective leg.
It is in fact the 2014 Herbalife Summit in Munich.
I am near the pavilion, wearing the green cap with the feather that resembles Cam Newton's chapeau.

Very good logic.
Here is my logic.
It looks like we are not using our cap flexibility this year.
We do have enough flexibility to accommodate the cap hit.
If we need the cap flexibility, then I agree - cannot do it.
It appears they want to get the better players from the draft.
So here is an opportunity to buy a high pick in 2018.
2017 would have been better, but only 1 year away.

we do not know if the offer was for everyone.
likely not the patriots.
but if we negotiating for Romo, i would think the offer was available for us.

thought process:
1. it appears we are not using our cap space.
2. we have easily access more cap space by restructuring Dez (~$8M) and TCrawford (~$5M)
3. if the FO intends to use all the cap space, then of course, do not do the trade.
4. we have plenty of cap space next year if the FO wants to do anything.
5. it appears the FO wants to get their premium players from their premium picks. so here is a chance at a premium pick in 2018 - 2017 is better but 2018 is not that far off.

i dont buy enough cars to get your joke.

I am all for a premium pick. But in the Browns I trust. They are loaded with draft picks and goofy enough to part with them.

As to tje var joke, it was no joke. Car salesmen tend to abuse me at the car lot. They see me green hat with the feather in it and hear me cockney accent, and brother, they know they can sell me a lorry with 3 tires.

I do hate this thread but I do agree we need to restructure Dez. We haven't done it yet and chances are he's going to be on this team in two seasons.

It seems like we have to restructure him eventually, we are just waiting.
maybe.
the main question i;'d ask myself if i were a GM is would we keep this guy the FOLLOWING season if he tore his ACL week 1.
with Dez that's probably not a yes, as much as I love Dez.

I think the Cowboys would. I think the Cowboys love Dez as much as you do. If he tore his ACL he'd be right back here. I think its going to take a lot of Dez not to be here.

Sign what free agents? There's nothing but 3rd tier guys out there. You can be in win now and not waste money on 3rd tier talent.

i think there are at least 1 probowler not signed.
but the guy with 11 sacks was signed.
or may be the corner that new england signed...
