Two big trades headline this "dream mock" that effectively hits the best value for the three key positions Dallas seeks to fill in this draft… and then adds key depth, while also filling some special teams holes.
DRAFT STRATEGY: Now that RoMac and Hardy have been inked, it's no big secret that the Cowboys have three areas where a draftee could compete for a starting role: RB, DT (1-tech) and CB… the only other high-priority I see is depth at the offensive tackle position. This draft addresses all four positions in its first picks. You can make a good case for a back-up QB, but I’d rather Dallas finds a bargain FA to take Weeden’s job; I don’t want a rookie as our #2. The only other "holes" are on special teams, where I use late-round picks on the top punter and a top kick returner… the other two picks aim at CB and OL depth. I didn’t address DE further, as we have many young prospects in-house now, plus our shiny new "diamond in the rough" from London!
Looking for three starters at CB, DT and RB, you need to look at where the top-level talent starts to drop off for each position ... and then don't go there!
