We need to use press coverage on Beckham in week 1

Not true. Watch the games. Beckham was not press coveraged that much. As happens with a lot of rookies, including Dez, defenses take a while to grow respect for them. The 2nd year is much tougher on the WR as defenses adjust. I think we will see the Jags tactics used every week until Beckham can prove he can beat the press with safety over the top.

What's not true? I said it wasn't used because it didn't work. You simply furthered my point. Press coverage isn't something that miraculously happens to a second year receiver. If he couldn't handle it, teams would have known and used it last year and the year before.

Furthermore, this article talks about being physical and getting in his face, not just playing press coverage. Like I said previously, we don't have an "In your face" corner in our top 3. Patmon could be that guy, but I sincerely don't want him covering Bekham for long stretches.

So, to sum up your thoughts... NY is due for a good season and you seriously doubt Dallas' chances of a good season? Is that about right?

Yes. For me, personally, the season is eerily similar to our 2014 season.

They lose one of their best (if not the best) pass rushers on their team.

Questions surround Eli's ability to stay protected and deliver.

Head coach on the hot seat.

Lots of 'no name' guys on their defense due to injuries.

Last year we got rid of D Ware, lost Sean Lee, Romo had back surgery and Garrett was a 'lame duck' Head Coach. Everyone, including many on this forum, predicted a 6-10 season. This team embraced the 'fight' mantra, and "played together, stayed together" as Dez so put it after every PC. You could really feel these guys bond and were like brothers on the field. There's a clip of Dez grabbing Beasley by the head and kind of putting his head in his chest after a huge play by Beasley and my friend always refers to how much he loved that image and it was indicative of how much these players cared about each other (this was during the last Commanders game last season; can post a clip later).

Of course with all that being said I still have my ticket for Cowboys vs Eagles November 8th and Cowboys vs Giants at met life in October.

Or maybe not...

Thanks for posting that. It further strengthens what I was saying. Teams did press him some. They just weren't successful so they didn't stay with it.

We'll see this year. Same as RG3. You want to be a star, earn it

RGIII was a bonafide star until the team he plays for decided to stop running read option. No defense came in and adjusted to him, his own team took away his strength and since then he's never been healthy. That's apples to oranges.

I feel like Wilcox should go ahead and light him up and take the penalty. Ask Romo to pay the fine. Lol. ODB has been hearing footsteps this preseason.

Wilcox is a starting safety (though not a good one albeit). How about Patmon?

Well, I understand what you're saying... but don't 100% agree with it all.

You say that the 2015 Giants have some similarities to the 2014 Cowboys... well they also have a lot of similarities to the 2014 Falcon's.

Coach on the hot seat. No name guys on defense. Wondering if their OL can protect their expensive QB.

I bet you could find similarities between NY this year and Tampa Bay from last year. Or Jacksonville Jags last year, etc.

Basically, I think that it is folly to look at how Dallas succeeded last year and then look at a different team and try to find similarities between them as an indicator of success. Particularly if you look at the weak points and expect to overcome them exactly as another team did.

Just because Garrett was on the hot seat last year and Coughlin is this year, that indicates nothing as to how NY will play in 2015. There are plenty of teams every year that go down the tubes and their coach was on the hot seat The only thing a coach on the hot seat means is that previous seasons have seen that coach's team struggle.

Having questionable ability to protect your QB is not indicative of success, either. Can the OL be better than expected and surprise everyone? Sure it can... but that is the opposite of what usually happens. Typically when everyone questions how bad an OL is, it almost always ends poorly for that team.

IMO, your worries about the Giants being good just because of those things you mentioned, is more akin to superstition than any tangible reason to expect success.

Your last sentence holds true. On paper, the Cowboys were a 4-12 team last year. On paper, this year, the Cowboys are a 12 win team. Although some comes from superstition, a lot of it is based off the Giants past history of being able to overcome these types of situations which they did in 2007 and 2011. No one knew what a JPP was in 2011; no one knew what a Victor Cruz was in 2011. Teams tend to galvanize in these situations and past success is indicative of that.

The Cowboys were also very lucky to not suffer any major injuries in areas that they were particularly strong in i.e. offensive line WR (mainly Dez Bryant). Will we be so lucky again?

Hopefully I'm wrong. I do respect your opinion and hopefully we'll both be 'mind blown' during the Super Bowl 50 parade in Dallas.

When Beckham lines up in the slot Id put Corey White on him. When he's on the outside I'm putting Carr .

OJ is the best WR in the league, you can try and press him if you want, you will or I should say we will only get our DBs burnt. I say that but I am still trying to figure out in my mind who is better he or Dez, if I say Dez that I am going against my family, but if I say OJ then I am going against my Boys whom I have bee a fan of for 49yrs. I do not mind if OJ destorys our secondary as long as we win the game. I want him to do well, I will be at the game rooting for him and rooting for my Boyz

a lot of it is based off the Giants past history of being able to overcome these types of situations which they did in 2007 and 2011.

The giants overcame their limitations in 2007 and 2011 because they had a deep talented defense, particularly on the defensive line. That pass rush enabled the Giants to beat better teams and to overcome.

This year's Giants team has no super defense waiting to come to their rescue. Strahan, Osi, Tuck, etc. are long gone. Those guys are why they used to win.

No one knew what a JPP was in 2011; no one knew what a Victor Cruz was in 2011.

That goes for every team. There are unknowns who will be good on every team.

Well see. If he is unstoppable once again and gets over 1,500 yds, then he is up there in conversation.

Dez is a better overall receiver, OBJ is a highlight reel but let's see how he handles the adjustments now that there's film on him. Dez's main problem was route running, but like a lot of people said during the draft all he needed to do was get the mental side locked and he would be special.

My ranking for receivers is
Dez Bryant
Antonio Brown
Calvin Johnson
Jordy Nelson
Victor Cruz
AJ Green
I need to see more than 1 season from OBJ before i label him a top receiver.
