We should open up with the spread, we shouldn't be predictable and get off to a bad start

Haven't been posting lately[been on the cowboys subreddit lately]

FTR I predicted us to go 6-10, the crow couldn't taste better.

I never got the Mantra of trying to go Mono-e-Mono. I believe in trying to get every advantage we have.

I think sometimes we shouldn't run to open up the pass, but pass to open the run[both are possible and can help]

I'm not saying don't run a lot but also mix in and do what the patriots did. Quick slants and pick routes and some screens to frustrate the defensive line.
That line is extremely undisciplined, if they get blanketed by our o-line they will mentally check out of the game.

The patriots did this to great success and their o-line isn't half as good as ours. I'm not saying have Romo throw it 40 times a game but IMo this would be the best way to beat the lions than to try and run up the middle against a very tough defense, and plus with the way their d-line plays, i'm not sure i'd want Murray anywhere around Mister Discount Double Step.

Final Note: For the love of God, move Dez Bryant around and don't just have him on the outside, put him in the slot. We hardly give him any routes where he has a free run. Run a few Pick Routes with him and T.Will or Beasley

I never said abandon it. I'm saying do it in spirts or flashes.
Quick passes negate a pass rush because if the ball is out quickly they feel as if why should they try if the ball is out within two seconds.

Committ to the run game but don't over do it, and mix it in with some spread is what i'm saying.

Make them put their sorry arse CB's on the field. IDk, i'm just all about match ups.

I agree, I feel we should hit them over the head with a broom and pass to set up the run. They are probably planning on us running, and game planning ways to get us in 3rd and long.

Why not a screen, or flare out to murray out of a spread set? Or the good old Witten route, or Beasley out route? Keep them on their toes. I pray to god, we shock them.

I don't think you come out and abandon the thing that made you successful.

Not sure why everyone is so convinced that detroit a run d is so good when it got gashed against actual good offenses.

Not abandon, but why not reverse roles and pass to set up the run? Especially since teams know we run on it on first down at an alarming rate?

Well the premise of the OP is to be a bit more like the Patriots. They tailor each individual game to target their opponents weaknesses. Let's see what these coaches do Sunday.

The Packers gashed them pretty good with a run and there OL and Lacey are not as our fire punch.

Thank you.
Another thing is I don't think they stacked the box against Lacy either.

I'll be happy if we remain a bit more like the Cowboys and just run the ball on them. If that doesn't work, we do what we did against the Eagles and just throw it on them. This is a game I think we should win.

I hate to take the Lions lightly, but I have a hard time wrapping my head around how poorly Stafford played against GB.

I kind of like them doing what got them here.

Yeah, pretty much. We havent scored under 30 points in two months.

I will say this, i.d love to see a hard sell play action on the first play.

I'm with staying what got you to this point. Don't try to be cute or tricky.
However, I do think they run a bit too much on 1st down, and that seems predictable. But overall it's shown it works.

Now Linehan has changed it up a few times later in the games as of late and throw on that 1st down, and most the time it's been a big gain or a TD. He times it right it seems almost all the time.

I think they run again to do several things. Show they will run it no matter what the Lions defense shows, or what the stats say. To see how the lions will play the run and show them we don't care what you do, we will, run the ball at you and the leg stomper thug.

I think aggressive passing should be emphasized in the first scripted 20(?) plays that OCs set up. This should get those DL in pass rush mode to leave holes for Murray as well. Of course, if the team runs with great success, keep feeding it. This relates more to ensuring the team doesn't start slow and losing the momentum @ home which has been a concern this season more so. I'm not saying lose your identity in the process. Maybe flat/screen passes to Murray early can assist as well. Please leave Dunbar on the sideline for a couple of screenso_O (too transparent @ times) One thing that is becoming a staple the last few seasons is that teams run a lot more in the playoffs so our team is definitely more than ready for that structure but unf. our D doesn't necessarily accommodate that style (more opportunistic than grind it out w/ya). This is why we shouldn't forget we have Romo/Dez, etc.

I really liked what I saw early against Washington. We ran our normal offense with nice wrinkles: play action, misdirection, etc. Linehan wasn't predictable and kept them on their toes. I say we stick with that.

Since the Chicago game we have gone a little more off script, for awhile there every 1st down was a run. Since Chicago I have noticed more passes on 1st down.

running sets up your hand for bluffing and passing.

stick with the run as we have been.

this will open up the 1st down play action bombs to dez :D

Yeah Garrett is gonna do what Garrett does. So I don't see any big changes happening. He likes to stick to his formula and at 12-4 as much as I've dogged the guy, I trust that he'll make the right decisions for us against Detroit.
I honestly think we are going to whip this teams ***. Nothing fancy for these guys, let's just play our game and they can worry about adjusting to us.

1. Open up with the run

or

2. Open up with play action pass

But please don't open up in a spread offense with 5 wide and an empty backfield.

Agreed. I'm so used to Romo consistently making completion after completion and rising to the occasion. After seeing Stafford play like a high school QB made me appreciate more on what type of QB we have in Romo. Stafford was awful and looked like the 2nd coming of Chad Hutchinson.
