We should trade Ware

Good thought. I don't know why everyone is against it. We are not a close to SB team like Seattle, GB, Denver or SF. It will take 3-4 good drafts to be a good team by which time - Ware, Romo, Witten need to be replaced.

For all of you who are against it, when is a good time to trade 30+ start to get 1st round picks in return? If you believe what Jerry is selling that we are SB caliber team year in and year out - your answer will be never. I do not believe we are close and we need as many picks as we can get to start the rebuilidng process with the young foundation we have so far

Ware is my favorite player, so it hurts me to say this, but it is time to move on. He will turn 31 this year in the offseason. The next two years he is due 12 and 13.75 million respectively.

This is either going to require a long term extension which will lock him up until his mid to late 30's or it is going to require eating a lot of money and watching him leave in a couple of years.

Either way, it just isn't a good option. I still think he has at least 2-3 good years left in him, but at that price, we should move on. I would hate to see him turn into Jay Ratliff.

Realistically, we could grab at least a 1st round pick this year with another mid rounder this year or next. Maybe we could even get more.

I am going to duck now.

His value is at the lowest coming off a serious injury.
We need to sell high, how bout Jason Witten ?
Coming off a career year and we have Hannah waiting in the wings.

Teams know he played hurt. Recent SB teams like GB and NO (3-4) will offer a good value for Ware as they are set in Offense. Probably multiple 1st rounders since their picks will be at the end of 1st rounds. I doubt Witten has the same value - teams can get a very good TE if they pick TE in first round, why trade for 30+ year TE?

I rather go 1-15 three years in a row than 6-10 8-8 and 8-8. At least then you can clean house. Get the cap in order and get young talent

Sure you would.

This actually is not a bad idea if you are a forward thinker.

If you are a forward thinker you would've considered this move a year or two ago, its too late now.

I don't know why some think we can get 1st round pick for Ware? I just don't see any team giving up 1st for Ware, none.

I would have sold a lot of these guys after the 44-6 game and then the rest after the Minny playoff game. It's too late now. With Jerry doing all of this restructuring, he's hitching his wagon to this core group like it or not.

The only way I would even think about trading Ware is if we dont extend Romo. In that scenario, then I agree 100% that we need to blow this piece of crap up.

Ware, Witten, everybody needs to go in that scenario because we aint winning jack for a very long time if Romo walks.

I'm all for the Patriot's model of getting picks, but Ware deserves to retire a Cowboy.

Same thing for Witten.

That shouldn't mean that the team would have to suffer just to keep him on the roster long enough to retire. If his production drops dramatically and he still eats up a large majority of cap space, then he is doing more harm to the team than good. This is a business and should be run as such. The players understand this. The GM's job is to do what is best for the team, not a player's personal feelings. You have to know when to let go and move on. He can always sign and retire a Cowboy at the end of his career the same way Emmitt did.

I see where the OP is coming from; it is better to trade him now while he still has trade value and before his contract inflates to proportions that exceeds the return of investment. Use that money and roster space to find someone younger and cheaper that can rush the QB. We all know that will not happen though.

I don't know why everyone is giving the OP such a hard time. He's just making a point and one that could bring in some valuable picks. I like Ware but he is over 30 and injury prone with his neck and all. Also, and I will get flamed for this, but Ware doesn't elevate his game when we need him most like a Charles Haley or LT. Haley got better in big games, Ware gets better when the Cowboys are up and the game is all but over. In the last minutes of a nail biter, Ware is silent........

give me a break.

Tyron smith is a top flight guy who will be up there with ware and romo in time.

Lee, Dez and carter could be if they can stay healthy and on the straight and narrow. There are ifs there.

the rest are just good players.

This small group of possible really good players is a far cry from replacing a hall of fame pass rusher, franchise qb, etc....

this team has failed because it has not filled in the periphery around the excellent players it had going back to 05 and up.

So excuse me if I doubt this front office's ability to find a premiere weak side pass rusher, a franchise qb just because it has a bunch of picks when for nearly 9 seasons they have not been able to identify talent at the easier positions to find.

Just curious who you credit as having found Ware?

scouts and coaches on the staff.

if this was a feeble attempt to say jerry was behind ware...well stop.

this story has been twisted and twisted.

Bill liked merriman, jerry and stephen wanted to draft ware to avoid negotiating with the postons....they took bill out of the war room and explained to him that Merriman would be a holdout and miss all ota and camp practice......as broaddus said bill came back in unhappy about this but was high on ware anyway, he just preferred big school kids.

and again, this proves nothing on the behalf of jerry and stephen other than jerry since day 1 has hated hold outs and in fact used to negotiate with picks before they would take them to avoid this.

That was bill's team, he ran the show. He chose ireland over ciskowski when he got here and he removed jerry's advisors from the equation. He layed the ground work for the types of players we would take and how to identify them.

its not a coincidence since he has left, ciskowski got bumped up, jerry has final say and the advisors who apparently have hired our defensive coordinator are back in business.

oh and we have missed the playoffs three years straight, just like the last time the setup was this way under campo.

Yeah, like we've been winning so much with him. :laugh1:

We faired well last time he missed a few games, in fact much better than when he was in. I have no doubt Orton or another guy who gets the ball out early would do as well as Kitna.

Orton would be on a slab or on IR in two games behind this line.

I love how people act like kitna was really good.

The defense played better under pasqualoni.

Kitna was dreadful against jacksonville, green bay and arizona....he was pretty lousy against new orleans also.

the defense getting turnovers and scoring points was the difference in that second half of that season.

if you put orton behind this line with no running game he will be hit every play. People forget, Teams do not just come after romo, particularly on the edge because he is terrific once he gets outside the pocket.

so if other teams are gameplanning orton its entirely different how they attack our line and sorry running game.

This offense would crumble in its current state without romo. Bad line, no running game and wr who do not play at the same level week in and week out.

Aikman says we win 3 games max without Romo.

Orton would not last 2 games with this line dude.
