dumervil is getting cut this week apparently.

I meant To put von miller not elvis but it doesnt matter. Theyve passed the time to trade ware if they wanted something for him anyway. Be hard to get a 4th rounder for him at this point. Id iike to see him retire next year or the year after that a cowboy anyway.

this team has failed because it has not filled in the periphery around the excellent players it had going back to 05 and up.

This team has failed because it has/had a bunch of guys that simply dont know how to win. For all the talk of their being so many deficiencies with this team, time and time again they end up on the doorsteps of a division title, or with a chance to win playoffs game and they just dont do it.

2006 - Wildcard @ Seattle. We all know what happened there, there was nothing with the structure of this team that caused this loss

2007 - Divisional vs. NYG. Best record in the NFC and best chance since 19-whatever to win a superbowl. No deficiencies caused a loss here.

2008 - Week 17 @ Philly. Went into december at 9-5, let the Ravens shut out our old stadium then with a playoff berth on the line get blasted 44-6.

We can throw 2009-2010 out the window

2011 - Week 17 @ NYG. Once again, playoff berth on the line we get blasted 31-14.

2012 - Week 17 @ Was. Again, despite any so called structural flaws in this team, they had a chance to throw that all away in a winner takes all situation. Despite everything that happened in the first half, we stood with the ball in the fourth and had a chance to drive down field for the win.
And what do we do  28-18.

Now if you look at this 6 year window, the common denominator is its the same cast of clowns that had their hands in on all of this. '08 I think you can make a legit argument for that horrid OL being a cause for defeat, but every other year is these guys, especially the one you need to, just cant execute.

Ware is my favorite player, so it hurts me to say this, but it is time to move on. He will turn 31 this year in the offseason. The next two years he is due 12 and 13.75 million respectively.

This is either going to require a long term extension which will lock him up until his mid to late 30's or it is going to require eating a lot of money and watching him leave in a couple of years.

Either way, it just isn't a good option. I still think he has at least 2-3 good years left in him, but at that price, we should move on. I would hate to see him turn into Jay Ratliff.

Realistically, we could grab at least a 1st round pick this year with another mid rounder this year or next. Maybe we could even get more.

I am going to duck now.

No one, other than Romo, should be considered untouchable. The goal, though, would be to at least land a top-five pick this year or it wouldn't be worth it.

You guys can't list all the reasons we should move on from a player (age, cost, etc) and then say that "we should flip him for some first round picks." Weird thing about it, if he's older and expensive for us, he's going to be older and expensive for other teams, too. Teams value high picks like gold, and you're probably not going to get one for a guy that's 30+.

Unless it's a QB, or somehow Jerry can find a way to trade him to himself.

I agree with this only because I don't think Ware has more than 1-2 seasons left in him before he hangs them up. IMO, he seems to have lost a step or two and you tack on his nagging neck issues...how much longer does he realistically have left? If we could get a high 1st for him, I'd say go for it.

I'm not going to fault OP for thinking ouside the box but many teams are starting to catch on to what NE and other teams have done successfully...get rid of vets before they need ALOT more money and when they are on their last legs. Because of this teams are afraid to take cap hits for older vets...even when it might improve them. Teams are building in the draft with a mix of vets that have value. I just think its much harder to take an older, big name guy and get the proper valuation you want in picks.

I rather go 1-15 three years in a row than 6-10 8-8 and 8-8. At least then you can clean house. Get the cap in order and get young talent

Oh please....

You just sound like a fan ready to quit...stop.

Should of traded Ware when he had value. What will you really get for him right now. He's older, slower and has neck problems. Missed the boat on that one.

The Cowboys have too many old players on the team. I thought the team was in rebuilding year 2 of 3...but looking at the roster we have at least two more years of rebuilding...if not more. So the original poster trying to get picks by trading Ware (or possibly someone else is not a bad one).

All 13 UFA on the team should be let go with two exceptions -- TE John Phillips and LB Victor Butler (both age 25).

13 more players are "old" (not counting QB's or LS). Most on this list need to be replaced with younger guys. Most concerning is the age of the offensive and defensive lines which are not very good to start with...OL (Ryan Cook, Doug Free, Nate Livings) and DL (Jason Hatcher, Jay Ratliff, Demarcus Spears).

Maybe these old guys just get tired near the end of the season, and as a result they fail...football is a young man's game.

Same. I wouldn't be surprised one bit if he retired after this coming season.

Wouldn't trade Ware, but surely we could get a 3 for Austin.

Don't tell me a team like the Vikings wouldn't surrender a 3rd rounder for a starting WR.

It really depends on the situation. If a team is desperate enough and has the resources to do it, a team may be willing to give up huge resources for a player like Ware based on his reputation alone. A team that feels the pressure to win now can invest heavily in short-term success. Ware will be 31 this year, so although his better years are behind him, it is possible for him to have at least 3-4 years of solid production in the right system. A team that feels they are a player away could easily overpay for his services, especially teams drafting late in the draft where the better pass rushers would already be off the board.

you guys are crazy if you think ware only has 1 or 2 more good seasons left in him. if he was lazy and didnt care id say the same. but the fact of the matter is the man is self motivated and works his butt off. i could see ware being dominant still as a situational pass rusher like john abraham even after ware his out of his prime. ware is the last thing you need to worry about or fix.
