Any questions? Commentary? Rueing over Church, Claiborne, or Carr? (AKA MediocreSauce)

Our Dream team of Garrett, J Jones, S Jones, & McClay went to WORK in the War Room and they deserve some Pat's on the back. The reimagining is fully underway!

Sure, as with anything, only time will tell... But if you can't see the amount of work that was put into the past three days(& several weeks prior), I guess glasses won't help.

How bout Dem Cowboys??? :yourock::flagwave::starspin:

This the first time in a long time I've thought man, the Cowboys Defense with some coaching might end up being as good if not better than the offense.

When we changed QB's it was notable that the culture of how we approached things equally changed. There was a confidence that the offense started to play with that this wasn't the "same old cowboys" waiting for the shoe to drop. And they kept winning all the way to a 13-3 record. It's exciting to think that the D now has this same opportunity to clean house, and get a chance to have a new approach at winning.

No more waiting for the shoe to drop, no more band aid Defensive ballgames. No more running the ball trying to keep the D off the field. We want them on the field, because they are a growing strength. This is a good window opening up here.

There were so many people that doubted my strategy & thoughts around what was going on when I made this thread.....

http://cowboyszone.com/threads/the-reimagining-of-our-defense.374127/

I'd love to hear from those conclusion jumpers now but my guess is they're too busy celebrating with the rest of us.

Patience is truly a virtue.
This post got my attention:
There are a lot of reasons to be optimistic about the Cowboys defense this year.

Overall they performed well last year and will get a big increase of talented players this year.

More FA's, defensive heavy draft, Tapper, Smith......a lot of reasons to be optimistic.
Pure genius.

The choice the front office faced this offseason after looking at the defensive production - especially the secondary, was:

1) Continue paying big $$$ for mediocre or even below average at times production with a secondary full of high priced older veteran players

or

2) roll the dice and let all the older guys walk to other teams for even more $$$ while you save $$$ drafting their replacements in one draft.

Stephen Jones and this front office picked option 2.

Now we still have Byron Jones, Anthony Brown, and Orlando Scandrick, Jeff Heath and Kavon Frazier. Jones is the biggest $$$ in our secondary right now as a 1st rounder 3 seasons ago. Scandrick is getting veteran $$$, but the Brown and Frazier are late draft picks still on their rookie contracts.

They are about to be joined by Chidobe Awuzie, Jourdan Lewis, Xavier Woods and Marquez White.

We don't even need these guys to EXCELL right away, really. We just need them produce AVERAGE defensive numbers for an NFL secondary this season, then as they get better hopefully move to the top of the NFL.

DE, CB, CB, WR, S, CB, DT, WR DT

As far as what the team needed, we went heavy on the defensive secondary with 4 out of 9 picks. Throw in the DE and 2 DT's and we went defense on 7 of 9 picks.

Switzer and Brown, the 2 WR's are a nice contrast. Switzer is in the Beasely/Welker mode and a special teams upgrade. Brown is a big physical receiver who can push Brice Butler for the #3 WR spot.

It's really crazy. The amount of young talent we have amassed on the defensive side of the ball in the past few years is mind boggling. No one is even really talking about Kavon Frazier. I bet he's just about ready to break out.
