I loved our pics 2nd Rd on. Not sold on Taco. Not only is he more of a rotational guy in more of the mold of Irving but Stephen admitted that didn't have a 1st round grade on him. Especially loved Rds 2-5
To be fair though, they only had 18 1st round grades I believe.

This the first time in a long time I've thought man, the Cowboys Defense with some coaching might end up being as good if not better than the offense.

When we changed QB's it was notable that the culture of how we approached things equally changed. There was a confidence that the offense started to play with that this wasn't the "same old cowboys" waiting for the shoe to drop. And they kept winning all the way to a 13-3 record. It's exciting to think that the D now has this same opportunity to clean house, and get a chance to have a new approach at winning.

No more waiting for the shoe to drop, no more band aid Defensive ballgames. No more running the ball trying to keep the D off the field. We want them on the field, because they are a growing strength. This is a good window opening up here.
You are insane if you think this Defense will be anything close to the offense. I mean, seriously? This just blows my mind that a fan can actually think this. A Defense comprised mostly of first and second year players will be as good if not better than a unit with 5 (soon to be 6) all pros. No respect for this offense. Borderline offensive

You are reading too much into the bolded as others are referring too.

How is that disrespecting the Offense to say that the defense has potential to be as good as them? Having 5 almost 6 soon to be all pros sure helped us last year in the divisional playoffs when it mattered. When it's said and done, the defensive additions will give us the tools to get beyond the teams that are built to beat us. I don't care who gets the game ball, I just want the team to finally get over themselves.

And besides, how many years has it been one or the other? Have an elite Offense, and a defense that can't stop a nosebleed. Or have the adequate defense like 2009, and then the offense let us down? Have the RB no line.. Have the line no RB... Full team, no QB and so on... That's been the story 22 years man. This year is our clean slate year. And the window that the offense opened, is about to be joined with the defensive draft class. This is a time for celebration not nit picking..

Can't we hope that both sides be good, like it used to be?

as it was perfectly stated, when drafting at 28, you are pretty much in the second round. so the fact we had 18 first round grades, pretty much spot on, anything past 22 is top of the second round. 22 25 and on if you want to get picky. Taco went right around he was supposed. Wont be elite from the start, but like Ware, where Ware studied the position while watching it working in college, Taco got better and understood how to grow each year, that tells you he takes his job seriously instead of just letting his skills carry him.

You tend to draft guys that have 2nd round grades when you pick in the late first. Teams don't give out 32 first round grades just because there are 32 picks in the first round. They only had 1st round grades on 18 players.

They had a 2nd round grade on Frederick the year we took him in the first (They only had 18 first round grades that year too). That's worked out ok for us.

Right. I get that. I even mentioned Frederick in another thread. I don't have an issue with Taco, the player, per se. I think he can be productive. I just think its a meh pick overall compared to the rest of our draft. As I said, he is a rotational guy...and a strong rotation on the D line was huge in the early 90s... who fits other players we have skill set wise. I'm wondering how much more they had Tak rated above Taco to be honest and if moving up a couple was an option like Atlanta. Overall I'm happy with the draft. The plus in this draft is we did stay put, didn't take head cases for the most part, and didn't reach. I hope this group can plug some holes hat opened up this off season.

Also, let's not forget a major detail that someone else so astutely pointed out elsewhere this past weekend.

Taco will be going head up with Tyron. That practice battle will most likely accelerate Taco's settling in process.

I think Taco will impress you with his ability to crunch opposing linemen with a ferocity reserved only for supreme varieties. Give him some time in the fryer with Tyron and you'll see a finished product worthy of placement on a marquee in record time.

Yes, but remember, there will be some growing pains. However, if the rooks mature like the ones did last season, this team will be a power - SOON!!!

This is really exciting. I mean... When have we ever had a streak of three years in a row like this draftwise?

I believe we'll probably see a little bit of growing pains this year so we may not see this class pay off right away. But in a couple years we'll be seeing a good young defense. Only real compaint about this draft is I'm not sure we've got a star player in it. But we could see several starting quality players.

I think it all depends on how the offense can protect the defense early on in the season as the newbies are getting acclimated to NFL football. Long, sustained drives that end in touchdowns is what is needed.
