yes Lawrence is coming back, but he's not a RDE...he will look like a jag over there.

I disagree, he started as a RDE his rookie season and came alive during the playoffs. I would put him there at RDE and use a rotation of T Crawford and Irving , who is coming on stronger as he acclimates to that position and gets over his injury at LDE . I'm okay with the DT rotation.

Tapper is the wildcard.

So, while I don't see a big jump in improvement, I do see the D making strides which could be accented and the O really starts heating up.

We are who we are. We also had very little pass rush in 2014. We have to play to our strengths and capitalize on our opportunities. We did get pressure here and there but clearly it's a weakness. With that said, our secondary is playing much better and we're playing better overall D. We've had a turnover in every game thus far including two last night. So far we've given up 21, 23 and 17. This team is led by our offense and we can win if we can hold opponents to this range.

I don't understand how they can be so bad for literally the entire game. Even when we forced them in passing situations (entire 2nd half), we still could not sniff the QB. I really thought they'd have a decent game vs the Bears but they actually looked worse than Week 1/2.

If I'm McClay, I have a dozen guys come workout this week b/c we're in for a rude awakening vs our next four opponents if we don't fix this. I'd gladly take the 2015 pass rush right now at this point.
Maybe 2 dozen ???

Browns allowed 8 sacks in the previous 2 games, and using my abacus that comes to an avg of 4 per game.
We got 0. That is disturbing.

We gave Tyrone Crawford a contract for 5 years 45 million with 25 million guaranteed. He's not going anywhere. The thought of having him play left end at 9 mill a year is ridiculous. He would be making more than guys like Michael Bennit, Cliff Avril, Cameron wake, Carlos Dunlap ect

All we can do now is hope that the unit will get a bit stronger with increased reps and with the return of tank Lawrence.
Our tank should have a lot of gas in it !!!

A lot of revisionist history by some posters in this thread who are now trying to claim they knew the pass rush was going to be a problem. Many said the pass rush would be adequate, especially with the new additions at DT providing a push in the face of QBs. And yet through the first 3 weeks, QBs have had pretty clean pockets. Even a couple of times when our ends last night finally generated some outside pressure, Hoyer was able to step into a clean pocket.

The front office completely failed this offseason. It's mind numbing really when you take into account Jones made the pass rush a priority in February and all this talk of building a team around Romo to get him a ring in his last few years. And then they went out and their only new faces at DE were a 4th round pick and a cast off from the Raiders.

For all intents and purposes this is pretty much the same D as last year that struggled to get turnovers and sacks. People shouldn't be surprised that this year the team struggles to get turnovers and sacks.

And as for those with the retort, we've held teams to around 20 points................. that's nice. But people are looking at the bigger picture and better offenses with better QBs will pick this defense apart. And that's a shame because even with Prescott at QB, this team has a SB caliber offense. But stupidity, ignorance and total unchecked risk at defense will likely cost them.

In trouble anyway. Looks like Eagles are for real. They have a top defense and Wentz is rookie of year so far.

Well we will get a guy who commands double teams and is probably a top 10 player on our team back fresh soon, so that could help!

*edit* not really double teams, but chips and attention, same diff.

I thought there was no way they were re-signing Greg Hardy? Did something change?

Crawford played well at DE. He had some good pressures and played the run well. Just because you don't get sacks doesn't mean you didn't play well

And just because a fan hopes for it, doesn't mean he did "play well" either.

Which is why even with his risks, Spence should have been the pick. They took a huge gamble on a Mike instead. Gregory screwed us in more ways than one apparently.

Yep. They followed up one blunder with another.

Yep. I was stunned to see that team has only given up 27 points over three games. Despite a complete scheme change with a bunch of new faces out there. Add that to a rookie quarterback that looks like the real deal, and they look to be a real force this quickly.

Not sure what Marinelli is doing by rushing 3, obviously it ain't working. I would suggest he try to rush only 1 and drop back all the rest.

Still can believe we didn't even workout Freeney.

Exactly.

If the front office had just cycled through a ton of guys trying to find a mix at DE that worked, I could live with that. But instead they truly believed their collection of JAGs would be just fine. And it's going to cost them this season unfortunately unless Lawrence and Tapper turn into two studs.

Their personnel was better suited for a 4-3 anyway. Kelly was a dope trying to turn them into a 3-4 defense. Guys like Brandon Graham and Vinny Curry were 4-3 DEs trying to play OLB. Cox, a fine 3-4 DE, is a better 4-3 DT. Add in a competent coordinator in Schwartz who likes to attack with his athletic DEs and what you have is a legit Top 5-7ish defense. As long as Wentz is even just solid, not even great, they are going to win a ton of games with that defense.

Maybe, just maybe, the front office will notice how quickly a team can turn it around on defense and that will wake them the hell up.

Nah, who am I kidding? Marinelli again in 2017 and we'll sign some more JAGs with the hope Marinelli can spread pixie dust on them and turn them into studs. That seems to be Jones' recipe for all of this.

I consider Schwartz a lot better than just "competent". I was actually hoping that the Cowboys could have taken advantage of Buffalo being idiots and hire him to coach the Cowboys' defense. But I will say that their defensive line talent is remarkably better than anything Dallas has.

Hopefully, somebody wakes up and realizes that any 'myth' of Marinelli being some 'D-line whisperer' is just that, a myth.

At this point, his 'Rushmen' neither rush the passer nor stop the run well.

Did Davis play? He is #75. I saw an x5 several times but I assumed it was #95 Irvin but it might have been #75 part of the time.
