I would have zero interest in giving him a contract like that.

Here's what my Diggs contract looks like.....

Hell I would trade Diggs, only problem is no team would be willing to give me what I want in return. lol Any player is tradeable at the right price it is just sometimes the price is too high for anyone to take it. Get Minn on the phone
Trade Diggs to Buffalo for a 1st so they'll have WR Diggs and CB Diggs on the same team

Tredavius White and Trevon Diggs at CBs. That's a dynamic duo. And their slot corner is pretty good too.

why are we worrying about this now?
All a new contract right now would do is kill the cap and probably put the player in Zeke mode. Let him prove himself for another year and a half

Take what Ward got and add 10% onto it most likely. If they extend him this offseason you may get a little relief on the AAV as they would basically be buying out the last year of his rookie deal to spread the cap hit over more years.

My gut tells me that Diggs is a Cowboy for a long time and gets compensated very well, but he should be someone that Jerry explores trade options for.

I'm all for moving him, but no chance I settle for a Buffalo 1st. That may end up being the 32nd pick of the draft. I'm probably asking for multiple 1s for Diggs unless a team like Jacksonville wants to give up a top 10 pick. You give me a top 10 pick and free up $20+MM per year for the next half decade to spend elsewhere? Yeah I can get on board with that.

This comment after seeing how badly we have needed Dak year after recent year when backups have had to play while Dak misses time due to injury?
I agree that Dak is overpaid. Shouldn't be getting more than $30 mil/season, but that fault falls on Jerry since he tagged Dak TWICE before being forced to overpay after the anté had gone up repeatedly due to Jerry's repeated denials. Jerry could have had Dak signed for $27 mil/season had he been smart enough to resign Dak during Dak's last year (4th) of his original rookie contract. So if you and other Dak haters want to blame anyone, put the blame where it truly deserves: Jerry Jones.

Dak wouldn't sign an extension, he held out and forced Jerry to tag twice then pay top dollar to avoid the third tag. Jerry did what he needed to do to keep Dak.

When did Dak ever hold out? Jerry could have resigned Dak during his 4th year of his rookie contract, but it was Jerry who refused and instead tagged him at the end of his rookie contract when Dak had his old agent. That is what probably got Dak hurt or upset, thus why Dak soon played hardball with his new agent and started asking for way much more.

The two most prominent CB contracts right now are Jaire Alexander and Denzel Ward. Alexanders is 4 years, 84 million with 30 guarenteed. Wards is 5 years, 100 million with 40 guarenteed at signing and 70 in total guarantees.

With Diggs contract, I can see it looking like 4 years, 90 million with 35 to 40 guarenteed
And further proof why they haven't been over aggressive in FA and trades.
We have some monster contracts looming.

Sounds crazy, but you trade lamb for a 1 and 3. Can’t pay them all and diggs and parsons are way more important.

Dak refused the contract extension he was offered per his agents advice.

I would not give him up for a 1st. As I said I would be willing to trade any player but not many would meet my price. I want vet players and I want draft picks. Is that going to happen? no

That gets me to this day. If Jerry wanted to go to war with Dak and his contract, I have no issues with that. The issue I have is they had nothing to counter that with if Dak didn't like the figures. Jerry can say 30, Dak says 40 and then Jerry says no and has option or money to draft a QB high or get another QB on the market that is comparable and cheaper. They had no leverage, and continued to lose leverage once Dak got hurt in 2020 with how bad they played with back ups.

Really want not about money it was about length of contract . Cowboys wanted 5 years and Dak 4. Money was not a sticking point

As fans we all love the player, but not the cap hit. But that's unavoidable. People are usually ok with it when the player is top notch. But there's a silver lining to this.

Regardless of what Diggs signs after this season, a big cap hit from him won't come until 2025 as a result of his extension after this year. Because 2023 is the 4th year of his rookie deal. And 2024 is the first year of any extension. That's usually low as well. It's the 2nd year of the extension that hits hard. But by 2025 the cap should be much higher, and his cap hit should be reasonable by then.

They could move some money into 2023 if they want to keep future cap hits down

My point is still the same though, if Jerry didn't like things about the contract, whether it be money/length he really didn't have any teeth in the discussion. He wasn't going to draft a QB, or pay another one. Once Dak went down he was officially behind the 8 ball. If Dak knew jerry would be willing to draft a QB high, or pay money to another QB that was comparable Jerry could negotiate from a position of strength. Jerry stood pat, and 3 QBs stunk it up and made Dak be worth even more when it was all said and done. If the cowboys found success like they did with Rush 4-1 (who is not better than Dak), then Jerry could have stood pat with his original offer even after the injury.

Diggs and Parsons are why we probably don’t pay Pollard and (potentially) Lamb.

They’ll both need Olympic sized swimming pools filled with money, and are both worth it.
