What a ring for Romo would mean

Neither Staubach or Aikman can make Crayton catch a wide open pass that could have gone 80 yards, fixed Terry Glenn's injury, or made Crayton not stop on his route.

Neither Staubach or Aikman could have survived the utter destruction that the Vikings put on our OL.

Romo has played fine in the playoffs. It's the team that let him down. Whether it was an incompetent loud mouth WR who couldn't catch a pass on the big stage, or an OL that aged 15 years overnight, Romo was the least of our problems.

He was nothing special in the playoffs. He was average. He was good enough to win. The elimination games were another thing. Romo might have been the least of our problems but he needed to step up too and he didn't. That's old news now. He has another chance for something great. Lets hope he does it. I like how he's handled himself this year. I remember in 2007 he and the rest of the team acted like they won a SB when they won the NFC East. This year they want more. They had the killer instinct against Indy. That was something that other Cowboy teams lacked. I can see a different Romo this year. Maybe it's because he finally has a running game and doesn't have to constantly throw. I wish he had that when he was younger. I think he knows that time is running out for him to win a SB. He has to be serious now.

The only thing for sure is that I think Romo will be in the Ring of Honor in our Stadium. Again as for the HOF....I think he needs 2 rings....contrary to what alot of you guys have said Eli will probably get in with his 2 rings only cause he did it in NY jmo

I used to think Eli would but I've changed my mind. He's going to have to play great in his final seasons to get in I think. His lows are just too much. If he somehow wins another Sb then I know that will get him in. And I agree, Romo will be in the ROH.

Eli plays in NY, and i think that has alot of bearing, plus he's a Manning, did he win 2 superbowl MVP's? i cant remember....thats also another reason.

Yea he won 2 of them and it's possible he gets in. I think Jim Plunkett deserves to go in more and he isn't in yet. I don't think it's over for Eli. Most thought Kurt Warner was done when he left St. Louis. I just think Eli is going to have to do a Warner to get in because besides the two SB runs, he's been pretty bad.

Im not trying to be argumenative....If i was a betting man... I would bet that he gets in......If I were voting i wouldnt vote him or Brees in. jmo, I would vote Brady, Manning, and Roethlisberger.

Eli is in, those two rings, MVP's and playing in NY says so. I don't think he is good enough, but no one will ask my opinion :(

LOL. "Elimination games." Another thing made up by the networks in order to criticize Romo.

Brady, Peyton, and Rodgers will make the HOF.

Rothlesberger will be a possibility.

I don't see any other QBs in that General generation in the HOF. They don't generally put a bunch of guys from the same position in there....usually they look for who was the best or top 2-3 at the position.

Jim Kelly, Dan Marino, John Elway, Steve Young, Troy Altman, Warren Moon and Joe Montana were all in the League playing in the 90's. Also Brett Favre. All of them are in the Hall.

Your premise isn't correct about looking for the top 2 or 3.

Brees is going to get in the Hall in my opinion.

My buddy (a Colts fan) and I had an interesting chat last night about his love for Peyton Manning. He was talking about how even though he will always love the Colts and is a big Luck fan, nothing will ever compare to the Manning years because they were his formative years as a fan. Luck may win ten Super Bowls, but he will never be Peyton. Peyton took over when my buddy was in 4th grade, and quite literally saved football in Indianapolis. He put the Colts on the map and made them relevant here.

My dad often says similar things about Roger Staubach. He was in his teens during the 70s glory years, and always raves about ol Roger the Dodger. He still roots hard for the Cowboys and watches them most weeks, but it's just not the same as when Staubach was out there.

This got me to thinking; who is my Manning, my Staubach? Without a doubt, it's Tony Romo.

I'm 26, and my first vivid memory of the NFL was Super Bowl XXX when I was seven years old. Little did I know it would go downhill from there. Sure, there were a lot of other great moments, like Emmitt breaking Payton's record, but for most of my formative years, being a Cowboys fan was a futile enterprise. We weren't even relevant.

Enter Tony Romo. My username (romothesavior) is a bit hyperbolic, but the dude made the Cowboys relevant for the first time in my adult life. I'll always remember his first game, the bobbled snap in Seattle, the beautiful 13-3 season, all the heroic comebacks and frustrating losses. Sure, 8-8 has sucked the past three years. But it beats being a kid and avid fan, and looking forward to 5-11s and Quincy Carter and Troy Hambrick.

Just like my buddy with Manning and my dad with Staubach, I am invested in Romo like no other player. And like my buddy and my dad, I'll keep rooting for my team long after he's gone. Much to the annoyance of my significant other, the Cowboys hold a special place in my heart that little else can match. But when I'm 50 and yelling at the TV for some other gunslinger to win us ring number 10, it'll be with just a shade less passion than I possess now. I had never contemplated that until my conversation last night, and it's made me appreciate his career and this season even more.

Yes it's just a game, and yes I'm just a fan watching grown men play it. But I want Romo to win one so damn bad. Not only so I can rub it in all the naysayers faces, but because he deserves one. The dude should go down as a first ballot Hall of Famer, one of the all-time greats to wear the Star or strap on a helmet. But it won't happen without a ring. He will never earn widespread respect without one. So ******, lets get a ring!

Well written post. Thanks for sharing your story.

Really i am serious. This is very well written. I enjoyed reading it.

Brees could retire tomorrow and he'd get in.
