I don't see him ever playing again

2014: $750,000 (+ $4.75 million "signing" bonus)
2015: $2.5 million,
2016: $3 million,
2017-2019: $7 million
2020: Free Agent

does it go away if he retires

You would think...which is why this actually might be a good thing in the long run. Great player, but he is clearly made of glass.

I've read several sources saying it's a triad. ACL, MCL and medial meniscus. May be career ender. You would almost hope so, as to not pay that stupid salary.

Dallas doesn't owe him anymore guaranteed money. They do have 9.8m in dead money after this season. It is unclear if they took out an insurance policy for any of his contract. If they did, it is possible to get salary relief if misses the full season.

If he can return in 2015 there is really no reason to cut him. His 2015 and 2016 salaries are reasonable.

Well nothing about this makes me feel any better at all.

I'm sure no one feels worse than Sean, but I'm not ready to give up on him. If he's on the team, he's our best LB. There is no incentive to cut him even next year, so the best we can do is hope he fully recovers.

Just keep him on as the LB coach. He obviously has the "know-how" he just does not have the "can-do"...kind of like that fat, mean dance teacher on that stupid reality TV show.

People who think Lee will never play again are fooling themselves. The guy doesnt quit

Dallas made the contract how it is because of this issue. He will be in Dallas for atleast another 2 yrs. in 2017 Dallas if they release him would have a 3.9 cap hit in dead money. next yr he has a 5.4mil cap number and in '16 5.95. He;s not going anywhere. in ;17 his cap number goes up to 9.95mil and i think if injuries persist he will be released then.

.

Agreed he does not quit, however, there is no denying his last three seasons all ended up with him on injured reserve. Couple that with the fact that he isn't getting any younger I think anybody would be fooling themselves to plan on Lee contributing again as a Cowboy.

Maybe he does end up contributing... thats' great, however, the front-office absolutely positively can't count on it.

Come back for what?

Another injury?

This is like with Ware.

We must move on.

Is sean Lee making 12 million dollars to put 6 sacks on the field? This is nothing like Ware. He has a reasonable contract so screw it let him get healthy and get him back next season

The Cowboys will not cut him because there is no reason to cut a guy on IR and it would make them look bad.

They should not include him in any future plans and try to replace him on the field.

I agree with this. Move forward as if he will never play again and tell him he has to win the starting job back whenever he get back and stay on the field. He should not be given anything any longer. He should now be considered a luxury when healthy and nothing more until it makes sense to part ways.

Securing up a player with Lees type of injury History was a pure genius move by the GM.

Count your blessings. At least there was some playing time incentive built in. A least it was not another Ratliff or Austin contract.
