What about Lee's contact?

Count your blessings. At least there was some playing time incentive built in. A least it was not another Ratliff or Austin contract.

No but it was STUPID, how can you give this guy an extension knowing he is made of glass. 1 more stupid move by this front office

Dallas doesn't owe him anymore guaranteed money. They do have 9.8m in dead money after this season. It is unclear if they took out an insurance policy for any of his contract. If they did, it is possible to get salary relief if misses the full season.

If he can return in 2015 there is really no reason to cut him. His 2015 and 2016 salaries are reasonable.

And he won't take up a roster spot on injured reserve, and will be another LB coach/mentor (albeit an expensive one).
All he can do is coach his *** off -- we might have something for the future, but for now we'll develop the young-uns and find out who steps up.

Hitchens is the kind of guy who can do this.

I see Lee as I see Gronkowski in NE. All world players, but there bodies cannot hold up to this game.

Unfortunate, but true.

Hate to break it to you guys, but it's the year 2014 and guys don't retire from blown out knees anymore. Sean Lee will be putting on a cowboys helmet at some point next year.

I agree 100% that we should move on and not rely on him anymore, but he's not getting cut and he's not going to retire.

I felt one of the main priorities in the offseason was to find a veteran with OLB and MLB experience to challenge Carter and to backup Lee if he gets injured. Brilliant oversight by our front office. Can't see the forest from the trees.

I feel bad for Lee, he is a great talent but just snake bit with injuries. I know some of the bonus money is dependent on games played in 2013-2014 and 2015 -2016. As much as I would hate to cut him loose it may be what Dallas has to do.

He is a class act I just wish he could get past these injuries.

I've read several sources saying it's a triad. ACL, MCL and medial meniscus. May be career ender. You would almost hope so, as to not pay that stupid salary.

1000s of guys have come back from that

True I think the issue is not coming back from this injury it is the fact that he has yet to play a season without an injury that would knock him out for half a season. Even in college. I love watching Lee play the guy is a great player Dallas can't rely on him

Blown knee is one thing but this is his 2nd blown knee, plus the 9000 other injuries he has had, mentally he has to be close to being done, you just cant live your life rehabbing without going nuts

I don't see him ever playing again

2014: $750,000 (+ $4.75 million "signing" bonus)
2015: $2.5 million,
2016: $3 million,
2017-2019: $7 million
2020: Free Agent

does it go away if he retires

I don't see why at 2.5 mill we wouldn't see one last time if he could get past the injuries. Certainly can't try to build around him but moving on seems premature given that there is little savings there

Sure but you look at our lbs and I can't see a reason why you can't have him there in 15 for depth. He's not making a huge 2015 salary, his bonus escalators are shot, and Carter is likely gone. Can't count on him to lead the D but competing for one of the lb spots is a positive

Of course.

All this "cut Lee" stuff is built out of frustration as opposed to logic.

Sean Lee will be back at a 2.5 million salary next year because that is really peanuts in the grand scheme of things, and they'd take a sizable hit to cut him. And quite frankly, 8 games of his play is worth 2.5 million. The "triad" that Mike Fisher seems to be looking to copyright is not as severe in 2014 as it was twenty years ago. A guys knee these days is actually stronger after an ACL tear repairs it. He will be ready for 2015 training camp and he'll be a Dallas Cowboy when it starts. His health thereafter is not something I'm willing to wager on though.

I think the frustration is built from the pretty simple logic that we have yet to see this guy ever play healthy, or what is considered NFL healthy anyway, for a full season. He's always hurt with something. I love the guy. He's a great talent but for whatever reason he can not stay on the field for a full season. This time he didn't even make it out of the first non-contact OTA.

I feel for the guy but this is beyond frustrating at this point.
