What are some realistic ways to fix this team?

Besides the obvious (hire a real GM), how would you fix this team going forward?

For me we need upgrades at these positions (in order):

1. QB

2. DT

3. RT

4. LG (im leaving Tyler at Tackle and forcing Tyron to retire)

5. CB2


Now the obvious issue with trying to upgrade those positions, is the stupid team-building philosophy adopted by dumb and dumber (drafting only). We wont be able to fix both lines in one offseason because they dont even try in free agency.


Id also change the Head Coach. Obviously, its damn near impossible for any coach to thrive here with the insane owner, but we need a new voice on offense. Kellen has to go, and as long as Fat Mike is here, so will he.

Agree nothing will change with Jones (either) as owners.

First priority is fixing QB. You can not be competitive in this league without an Elite QB. Dak is a fraud, always was a fraud and we will be paying for it for years. But we have room in the cap.. go and get a QB. Fix that.. and the rest will follow.

Gotta start somewhere, though. Who gets the reigns should Jerry and Stephen go out in a blaze together?

You hit on the main problem. Only building through the draft. That's like a house rule to limit yourself. It's not a terrible SOP now and then when a better option isn't there. But to commit to it exclusively, not going to work.

Even if you draft well, you can't always fill holes with garbage. Sometimes a quality player, if available, is what you need to get over the top. You can't hit on enough draft picks alone fast enough to build a championship team. Those holes they keep filling with the undrafted and bums, some of them need to be quality players.

I would imagine they'd hire a GM. But who knows how committed to winning they'd be? Remember, it's not that the Jones boys are just bad GMs, it's their team building philosophy that is the problem. GMs do what the owners let them do.

In other words, even if Jerry and his son decided to retire and hire a GM. He wouldn't be allowed to pay high priced free agents either.

The OC and WR group is a FRAUD, for starters on offense. And the OL is continuing to look bad. Blame Zeke.

I think we are going to have to tank this season to help with that. I don't think this loss is entirely on Dak, but, sadly, I think we may need to draft a QB to try to bring in some competition to get prepared as Dak, I think, has two years left on his deal. However, we are going to need the best olineman at either LT or LG we can get, and we need WR. I think WR is probably our biggest need. We have no WRs, and Dak had nowhere to go with the ball. So, I'd probably say this for my list of needs:

  1. Ot/OG
  2. WR
  3. WR again
  4. DT
  5. CB

And that's the thing. Our WR was made of paper machete, and everyone knew that. Dak didn't have anywhere to throw the ball. Zeke did get us yardage, but we barely used him despite the fact he was getting a lot of yardage on TB. It's perplexing that Jerry thought this WR group was sufficient going into this season.
