Ok I know.....we've beat this dead horse to death!

But now that we have signed Hamlin to a big deal how can we really afford to have two safeties making this much money?? Throw in Newman and Henry's salary and it's way too expensive. Also, include Pacman (moderate salary) and then we still have to sign Jenkins (1st round money) and Scandrick! Watkins, Ball, etc.

It's too much money for a secondary, at least for two safeties.

I know that we will have to eat his salary, cap wise, but I just don't see the point of keeping him around in an already crowded secondary. We all know he's lost his confidence, but the real thing is the money invested back there.

If somebody has the exact numbers for each memeber of the secondary and can break it down that would be great (sorry I'm on work time!!!).

IMO I think we are cutting bait with him in training camp, or are going to make a trade. We are too good to wait on him anymore and crossing are fingers that he will get back to playing football again. It would be one less distraction for 2008 also.

By the way....this is not a "BASH ROY THREAD".....we know his limitations and we've done that! It's about the cost and what's really good for us as a team. What do you guys think?

I just dont see roy getting cut from this team for awhile.

unlike most I think he is here for a couple more years.

0% chance this year, after this year if things dont change I def see him gone.

Zippo? Nada? Noway?

Next year - maybe, if he doesn't step up. Salary Cap issues this year, and giving him the chance....

Aven8, it's not going to happen this year. I repeat. Not going to happen. If Roy stinks it up this coming season, then Jerry, Stephen, and the staff, will have to make a tough decision regarding their former 1st round draft pick.

If Roy indeed does have a less than mediocre year, then I would put my money on the front office letting him go. But again, that is not going to happen this year. Not in training camp, preseason, regular season, playoffs, or the Super Bowl when we beat the Patriots 31-21. ((Yup, I just made a slight prediction!))

Bank on it.

none, Roy has at least this year before he was to worry about be moved at all, let alone cut.

About the same chance that the OP reaches 10,000 posts this year.

That is all.

Who is better in coverage, Burnet-LB or Roy-SS/LB? Because to me that's essentially the question here. Roy is just a freaken linebacker playing SS.
Roy has more speed and when he's in the box he's a hitter, I haven't seen to many wow hits if any from Burnet. Just bored trying to create a new spin on the on going RW issue here...

Thoughts??

Do you mean cap wise?

Can we really afford to keep this guy on the team anymore (player wise)? He is such a liability and I think he has become a big distraction to the team. Sometimes you just have to cut your losses. Think of all the teams that have done it already. We have 10 left under the cap....I say do it this camp.

Either that or he's going to be the highest paid special teams guy in the league!

I don't think he is worthless so i can see Jerry trading him but not this year. it would also have to be in the offseason cause if it doesn't work his confidence will lower even more knowing the team doesn't want him anymore.

I would be literally scared to death if Kevin Burnett began to play more coverage than Roy. Now I am not dissing Kevin's ability, b/c he is one guy I am rooting for, along with Bobby Carpenter. But Roy has proven in the past that he can make plays in coverage.

Roy is still a talented player in the NFL. But whatever it is, he needs to find his game. Roy needs that killer instinct that he once possessed.

I for one believe that it is still there, and refuse to start another Roy Williams thread regarding his lack of production the last couple of seasons. Many players go through big time slumps. But it's still not too late to right the ship.

I truly believe Roy has the talent and pedigree to overcome his latest shortcomings, and once again become an elite SS. But, there are those who will gladly point out whether or not Roy has even tied his shoelaces correctly.

Believe me this is not another bash on his play thread. I thought Roy was probably one of the two or three best defensive players I ever saw in college (and I'm not just talking about the UT game).

I just think with the money we've spent we just need to go ahead and let him get a fresh start somewhere else. He doesn't believe in the defense. And he has lost his confidence. Also, throw in the fact that with the TE's we have to face in our division alone, piled with Cleveland, Pittsburgh, etc. is he really going to be on the field that much?? I think not.

You forgot to mention the June 1st deadline already passed(which, of course, would have been our best option-even though we still would have taken a cap hit).

.00000000000000000001% he gets cut.
