Read posts in context and you won't have a problem understanding what people are talking about. Words have NO meaning out of the context in which they are used.

:laugh1: what?! words do not suddenly lose their meaning and morph into something else because of the context

just 'fess up, you're a huge Roy hater, and are so blinded by it that you make up stupid conditions for him, such as earning our support, what a load of crock

ima not go back and read the original post, but I am pretty sure YOU put "earn" in all capitols. And now claim its a semantics thing?

What is this, 2003?

That would be a huge statement of intent from him, but I dont see it happening.

The original post noted that we should GIVE him support because he had supposedly turned over a new leaf and gotten in shape. My view is that he needs to EARN support for doing those things by showing us that he has actually rededicated himself and gotten in shape rather than just talking about it.

Again, what I've termed semantics involves the extraordinary focus on individual words and attribution of meaning based on a single word rather than the context of the discussion.

Fascinating.

I support Roy.

Her new bra gave her far better support.

The discovery of new information gave support to her claims.

Same words. Different meanings based on context.

I've said before I do not hate Roy. I do see him as underperforming. Unlike the Roy haters on this board I want nothing more than for him to play ****s out and lead this D.

the definition of support still does not change

then you agree that Roy doesn't need to earn our support?

It clearly has different meanings in each of those contexts. One was emotiional/mental, another physical, and a third factual.

The tone of the original post that I responded to was "let's give Roy a break because he's changed" -- I'm not getting off his *** because he's claimed to be approaching things differently. You can call that having to earn support or not - whatever meaning you prefer. I absolutely will not give him any credit for making those changes until he steps onto the field and shows he has done exactly that. Otherwise it is all talk.

That enough clarification for you?

If you MEANT rooting for someone to do well why didn't you indicate that is what you mean by support in the first place. That is your definition but clearly that is not the only definition - I've noted in like 20 places in this thread alone that I want Roy to do well.

And it's a bro not a bra. You of all people should know that.

I am a serious Roy Williams doubter but am excited at the prospect of him proving me wrong this season. If he does well the team will do even better with the greatest dividends being paid to the fans.

If he struggles there is enough depth in the secondary that we can still remain a potent defense.
