Could be a ST stud for years - not sure his heart is in that and his new wage scale to be.

You are joking, right?

I agree, I said Roy would not be cut, but role will continue to decline as his coverage and tackling skills erode. Could be a ST stud for years - not sure his heart is in that and his new wage scale to be.

There is a better chance of you bad mouthing the Pats than there is Williams being delegated to ST's as well

but you knew that you are just looking for some attention

I see you only have 14 posts, so I suppose you are not prepared for the beatdown you will receive at the hands of his enablers and worshipers here.

If you so choose to continue along this path, you will soon be told that your own opinion is but a by-product of myth and that his declining play over the last few seasons has been nothing but a figment of your overactive imagination.

And you've got more than 11,000 posts, and still don't understand the fundamentals of the Roy Williams debate.

Is that so?

In any polarized debate, eventually one side likes to try to say it really was "conservative" and fair and unbiased.

Taking the "myth" approach is a backdoor. While it seems noble on the front end, it really isn't. Because those who are preaching it really would be making the same excuses regardless. It is just a labeling game where one side tries to paint the other as more extreme and therefore, less credible.

and what you just did is called deflection
Avoid the real issues completely and start pointing at the argument itself as flawed rather than the facts involved.

There may be legitimate reasons to be critical of RW's play. I don't see why it's such a stretch to believe there are bad reasons for it, too. The Myth thread was epic, and in it Adam did a good job of dispelling a number of beliefs about RW that didn't happen to be true.

If you can't see that there are criticisms of RW's play that aren't credible, I'm not going to take the time to try to convince you. But that thread didn't mean that there aren't reasons to be critical of Roy. And I believe most RW supporters concede that his performance last year wasn't as strong as it probably should have been. It's when you go back farther than last year that you start having problems supporting your own argument.

In any event, mischaracterizing what Roy's defenders have to say doesn't do either side any favors, and you're too smart a poster not to know you're intentionally mischaracterizing here.

0 chance. Ain't gonna happen.

The next person that says/asks Roy Williams should (or if he will be) cut/released/traded should be banned permanently.

Ok I know.....we've beat this dead horse to death!

But now that we have signed Hamlin to a big deal how can we really afford to have two safeties making this much money?? Throw in Newman and Henry's salary and it's way too expensive. Also, include Pacman (moderate salary) and then we still have to sign Jenkins (1st round money) and Scandrick! Watkins, Ball, etc.

It's too much money for a secondary, at least for two safeties.

I know that we will have to eat his salary, cap wise, but I just don't see the point of keeping him around in an already crowded secondary. We all know he's lost his confidence, but the real thing is the money invested back there.

If somebody has the exact numbers for each memeber of the secondary and can break it down that would be great (sorry I'm on work time!!!).

IMO I think we are cutting bait with him in training camp, or are going to make a trade. We are too good to wait on him anymore and crossing are fingers that he will get back to playing football again. It would be one less distraction for 2008 also.

By the way....this is not a "BASH ROY THREAD".....we know his limitations and we've done that! It's about the cost and what's really good for us as a team. What do you guys think?

what do we have to gain from cutting him now? Not really anything

on the other hand he is a proven player who didnt play as well last yr as previous (especially his first few seasons) so if he reverts to that form, we're far better off

Exactly.

And as far as being able to afford Roy, with all the other large contracts in the secondary?

Seems like we're doing just fine! About $9 mil under the cap this year.

True. It my understanding cutting Roy will not help the cap this year, so why cut him? Who will replace him on the roster? Right now we only have 5 safeties on the roster. It would be a stupid move to cut him.

Read posts in context and you won't have a problem understanding what people are talking about. Words have NO meaning out of the context in which they are used.
