$10 says a lot of the people in here have made jokes about something like the holocaust of slavery or the like (or laughed at one); most likely in their youth. I get that 9/11 was more recent but while it was dumb for him to say where everyone can see... it's not anywhere near a cutable offense.

Like.
Not in their youth.... bu let's try yesterday. Oh, how I adore the forwarded racist, sexist, masochistic, sadistic emails that show up in my inbox from acquaintances. So precious.

different strokes, different folks.

during the bieber roast a few weeks ago, SNL comedian pete davidson made two jokes about his dad (who was a firefighter who died 9/11).
According to most on here, that Bieber roast would have been worse than 9/11. It was hilarious and I couldn't get enough.

Eh, what can we do now? Its too late to do much except try to minimize the damage.

Really dumb people + Twitter = Bad news.

My gosh people would probably have a meltdown if they watched some of the TV sitcoms in the 70's like All in the Family, the Jefferson's , Sanford and Son and Saturday Night Live. There were so many racist jokes and things said that really crossed the line but people had a sense of humor and never took things that serious.

Nowadays if you say anything that makes one person uncomfortable you will lose your job and it's getting ridiculous.

Wasn't funny. But its certainly not a deal breaker. Of course he was trying to be funny but with poor taste.

Was he really trying to be funny or be a defender? I think natural instincts kicked in. Greg Hardy is no Chris Rock.

I must be in the minority here, but didn't the first poster interject "9/11"? I'm not one to defend Hardy but I think this is a ridiculous "outrage". Its only FOOTBALL trashtalking. Social media in all its glory .... Again.

You're not the only one. Neither one bother me personally but if I was the type to wake up looking for something to get outraged about in an attempt to bolster my own self image I might find the fan's 9/11 analogy just as disrespectful.

Someone help me out please. Am I supposed to be outraged when I hear a reference to a QB throwing the bomb or is that ok?

We all interpret it differently--and thats ok. But I didn't read that the original guy interjected 9/11. He called them the "twin towers". A phrase that has been used often- besides just the NYC towers. The Houston Rockets had 'twin towers' back in the 80s, long before the bombings. So saying twin towers doesn't necessarily mean 9/11, IMO.

I do respect the way you took it though. Unfortunately, most of America does not have the same view.

You are correct about Sampson & Olajuan (one of my all time favorite b-ball players ... but I digress.) I evidently responded in context with the thread. In this day & age that phrase means nothing more and nothing less .... unfortunately.

This. Most people that might do something some will say are "dumb" don't know about no dang Rockets from the mid 80's they weren't even born most of them. Heck I was barely living then so I agree that meaning you gave is the meaning for most people esp the ones that would most likely post on twitter

A fan comparing two WRs to a the Twin Towers is without a doubt asking for a joke like that.

Just stop with the crybaby nonsense. Faux-outrage is irritating, and there is a lot of that these days. I'm sure the NFL will want him to hold a press conference so he can thank the troops, apologize to the families of the victims of 9/11 and tell the children of America how he should be a better role model.

Then fans will respond how he wasn't sensitive enough and still call him a scumbag.

Tasteless, but not that big of a deal. However, for someone that has a poor public image, this will not help him in that regard.

Does anyone care that the word "bomb" is an iconic metaphor in football -- used ALL THE TIME -- in spite of the fact that the entire Navy fleet was BOMBED in Pearl Harbor on December 7, 1941?

Controlling ones words is a way to control the individual. This PC crap about what you can and cannot say because someone might be offended is horse manure.

Hardy's comment was not said in a way to minimize the events of 9/11. It may have been thoughtless, but the world keeps spinning.

No one here lives in a fishbowl like a professional athlete or entertainer or politician.

The name calling at this kid is backseat driving in my opinion. Compared to the drunk driver on defense and the results there, this is moot by a long shot.
