Per DMN's Machota (https://sportsday.***BANNED-URL***/...ster-projection-cowboys-players-rookies-force)...

My reaction, fwiw...

- Can't see them keeping just 8 O-linemen given Green and Collins' injury history, unless they're willing to make Cooper their back-up C... but I also think that's entirely plausible that they would... maybe it's just me, but among the UDFAs, we seemed to attract a higher caliber of talent along the line, suggesting that whatever our guys said on the phone, it was convincing that there was going to be some competition there.

- I think Cowboys signal who they're most anxious to audition among the UDFAs by who they pay the greatest bonus to... and for that reason, I include Jarwin either slotted-in as a TE or as an FB

- I think if Hanna and Swaim both make the initial roster, both will have to make it through camp completely healthy, and again, recent history demands some skepticism there... Hanna especially... and I think Noah Brown's future on the 53-man also rides partially on this point, under the thinking that he can become what ultimately Vince Mayle just wasn't quite able to become

- LB is also a space on the depth chart that's composed of too many fairly recently injured players... I continue to think they're hoping to catch lightning in a bottle with one of their three UDFAs there, but very much monitoring the waiver wire after the final cut for the best possible reinforcement that becomes available... and consequently, I'm of the opinion that either White or Frazier ends up on the practice squad depending on their TC performances... and then again, there's also the possibility that they consider Keith Smith as their 7th LB

- And I still believe that if Showers gets an opportunity to compete at QB again, he will seriously challenge Moore, having talent and body frame that is better suited for success... Moore has the intelligence by all accounts, but he just doesn't have the arm strength that most other shorter-but-successful QBs have had.

Dak, K. Moore, _________
Zeke, McFadden, _________
Dez, Williams, Beasley, Butler, Switzer, N. Brown
T. Smith, Cooper, Fred, Martin, L. Collins, Green, Bell, _______
Witten, Rico, Swaim
Charlton, Lawrence, Tapper, Irving, D. Moore
M. Collins, Crawford, Paea, Ivie
Lee, J. Smith, Wilber, Wilson, Nzeocha, Hitchens
Oscan, A. Brown, Awuzie, Lewis, White, Carroll
Jones, Heath, Woods, Frazier, Blanton

That's 49, we could keep a FB or keep Hanna.

If you notice I have 8 of our 9 draft picks making the team. We all pretty much agree on the first five. I think White could be this years A. Brown, when I watched his games I noticed two things. One was he was in position and looked comfortable, and the other was that the other team didn't throw his way much. Ivie looks quick, is always working up field, and wins with technique, perfect Marinelli guy. N. Brown is a great blocker, I think he makes the team on potential if he shows that he can block like that on this level and contributes on special teams units.

Keith Smith is making the team. Garrett has been churning FB for 6 years and he is by far the best blocking FB we've found. He digs LB out of the hole.

Not 100% like it sounds you are, but I think that's true. I leave room for doubt because we've seen compliments spewed for FBs before, only to see the off the roster the next year.

But this is a staff that obviously embraces position flex, and if God forbid we get in a LB injury pickle... and it's not like that's never happened, is it... Smith is uniquely able to claim he can also play LB.

Fiammetta was the one that I recall people complimenting. He was a very smart player and did a good job picking up missed blocks which was an issue with Livings, Costa, and other scrubs getting playing time. He was forced out due to concussions.

Clutz I don't recall getting the same accolades but he may well have. I personally did not think he was as smart or as powerful as Fiammetta.

Smith isn't quite that savvy in picking up blocks but he is more powerful than his predecessors by quite a lot. He is also competent in pass protection which is huge. His route running beyond flares into the flat is nonexistent though.

What is key is that Garrett values the FB position and has kept inferior players. That combined with no real competition to supplant him I just don't see Smith not making the squad if he is healthy.
