Yep, my Dak thread. I am sure there isn’t but a few.

So what is it that you want from the FO. Honestly, we are for the most part all Cowboys fans on here and some obviously like Dak and some obviously hate Dak. But one thing we share is we want to win.

Either way the FO is convinced he is to be our franchise QB and are going to pay him and he will get market price which is 30-32 million an year. Judging from what Wilson and now wentz got. He don’t have the experience Wilson has or the ring. So I can’t see him getting that money. And wentz has a ring but he didn’t win the SB he was on the team at the time.

So what do you want, our FO to let him play out his contract and maybe use the tag on him if he gets better, then maybe sign him.

Cut him or trade him and tank a season to get a high draft pick or blow a draft up to trade up to get a high pick QB that you never know if they are gonna pan out.

Everyone saying 25 million a year is all they would pay is a nice thought but he won’t settle for that. Would you if you were him.

You can bet there is trade value there. And if we released him do you think a team wouldn’t grab him up and pay him.

Can’t wait to hear the responses. It’s the offseason so yeah.

Let him play out 2019 on his existing deal. If he does well and the team does well, negotiate a long term deal or tag him if you must. Yes, I understand if he plays well the price tag goes up on Dak, but I am OK with that because I think the downside risk to any long term deal now is way bigger than a few million more in AAV a year from now.

If you let him play out the 2019 season under his existing deal and he has a 2017ish type season or even a decent season but below what we saw in late 2018 (and the team also kind of just is blah), you've now given yourself way more information about what kind of QB you have and you also aren't now handcuffed to a big deal.

Not a bad plan. I haven’t look around to see our upcoming contracts for other players and who is about to pay there qb on other teams that could drive the market up towards the 35-40 million mark. I don’t think he has hit his ceiling yet but is not far from it. Just my opinion. If it’s a swing of 5 million a year then that could pay or greatly help pay and keep another of our players of need.

I am trying to keep the band together. And looking at it from the FO stand point of them already being sold on him.

I do not see anyway they don't sign him to a longer term deal because of the lack of options and I agree with that.

Does anyone here think the Dallas Cowboys are going to tank for a QB? Can you see the headlines and sports talk shows with that and you fans that buy tickets, are you on board with that? Ridiculous to even suggest it. Booger, Goodell and the rest of the owners wouldn't allow it.

So the next option is to package and trade up for a "sure thing " QB like Herbert or Tua or Lawrence the next year. There's only a couple of problems with that. First, assume the teams at the top of the draft don't want a QB and then assume the teams that do and what they'd be willing to give up. Want to get into a trading contest with them with this front office? And just how many teams would be vying for the chance to pick them? Think teams like NO, LAC and PIT aren't thinking about the next QB? There are no sure things but if Herbert and Tua have just improved seasons and look for Tua to get a hell of a lot more exposure because If Saban starts pulling him in the first half, good luck with recruiting stud QB's, the price for trading, if that is even a possibility, is going to be as high as the trade to pick Ricky Williams, only all of this year's picks won't do, have to dip into 2021.

Like it or not, Dak Prescott is the QB for the next 3-5 years and look at the guarantee and divide that by 4 and that's the hook. He's got a 66% win percentage and 2 of 3 division titles with a mediocre defense. What other QB has that in the last 3 seasons?

I am not saying he's great but he is not as bad as the Dakaters make him out to be either and not allowing for improvement in not only him but the offense in general, is showing nothing but they just flat don't want him, for whatever reason.

I am resigned to this happening and just hope it gets done soon so the venom can fly, the "there is no hope" threads can run and we can get back to something else like Elliott's contract. I see there is less resistance to that than the QB and that might be the biggest mistake this team can make. Especially if that costs the team a good top 10 cover corner.

You’ve set up a system where you have to pay him a record deal regardless of what you feel about him. Everyone in the league is set at QB in some capacity, so you’re likely not getting a great deal in return for a trade. You don’t have any established veteran QBs or highly regarded rookies behind him where you can just let him walk. And by the talent you’ve put around him, trading away 1st round picks, resigning players to massive deals to help ‘win now!’, there’s no feasible way you let him play out his rookie deal with no backup plan.

Dak is getting his money, and it hasn’t helped the situation with Jerry saying he really wants to give Dak his money. So it’s irrelevant. In concept it’s already been agreed upon, we’re just waiting for the numbers to come out that they negotiated.

franchise qb's are as rare as blue or red diamonds. dak's the closest thing we have to one. he will be signed. it's not even arguable. whether you have the high pick or just get lucky in later rounds, finding a qb involves a lot of luck. brady a 6th rounder. Russell Wilson a third. ryan leaf a flop. manziel a flop. get the deal done with dak.

    Maybe.

But something tells me the Cowboys valuation of his market worth is lower than people think. For example, in your Eagles world, specifically Bleeding Green Nation, they seem to think Dallas is going to pay Dak more than Wentz.

I don't believe that will be the case and the fact there is no deal yet seems to indicate to me that the Cowboys have a market value lower than many people think.

Not all franchise QBs are the same. I think that's what people miss in this. Because Wilson got X, Dak has to get X or maybe X+. Becaue Wentz got Y, Dak has to get Y or Y+. It doesn't have to work that way.

Something tells me the Cowboys don't subscribe to the belief that Dak has to get what Wilson or Wentz got.

I am not sold on Hubert or Tua. Never played a snap in the NFL. And your right. We ain’t tanking nothing. And a trading is not our strong suit. We will give up 2 years worth of drafts to get one of these players and put us years behind.

And we don’t have to. Look at the stats if you want to. Look at the play of this kid. 4th quarter come backs already in 3 years. The kid is a winner. With a team around him he is definitely a winner and this is a team sport. Is he brady, no. Other than brady no one is brady.

Our FO is gonna pay him for up to 6 years if they sign him now. So basically a 5 year deal. If they are gonna do it anyways then do it now before the market gets jacked up even further. Let’s worry about other players, Cooper and other rookie contracts coming due. Jaylon etc. I am moving further and further away from Elliot. This year and 5 year option of him staying clean before I think about it.

    I want a pony.

Sign him between now and the bye week is my guess and opinion.
Make sure 1. Moore is the right OC, and 2. Dak looks good in the "new" offense and is looking worthy of a 30mil+ deal.

I am thinking in between. Definitely less than Wilson and if his agent thinks he is getting that then if I and the FO then he is playing out his rookie deal and getting tagged. He had to come down to earth. And ya know maybe he isn’t looking for record breaking deals. He is gonna he set for life after his signing bonus anyways. Lol. And with what he is set to make this year a signing bonus and guaranteed money may mean a lot.

The problem though is if you pay him less than wentz, his number still went up after the wentz deal. Maybe before it was 27, but With everything he’s historically achieved as the qb of america’s Team, are his agents really ready to proclaim he’s worth 5m$ less a year than a guy who never even plays? With how many 30m+ QBs there are now, it would be shockingly to me personally if he refused that money and took sub-Cousins valuations. He’ll be a 30 guy, even if it is technically less than carson.

It hard to tell where Daks head is at. Sure he wants the most he can get. And had a agent in his ear telling him he is the greatest ever.

I don't think they want to go into the season without a deal in place.

If you look at all of the spin coming out about Prescott in OTA's and Moore's plays making the players happy and add to that the most optimistic owner in the NFL, they get the deal done before camp. He doesn't want anything but a forward lean going into the season. And the FO wants to shut down the Dak talk before camp and get everyone resigned to the reality.

However, having said that, they don't know this forum. We still have posters complaining about what they paid Romo 5 years ago.

While that is true, the comps come into every deal made. Some players even have it in their contracts that no player at their position can be paid more by another team.

It is those comparisons being made, and fed by their agents, that is driving this QB market so high so fast. Rodgers is getting 30M and Wilson 35M, if Rodgers feels he has a better season than Wilson, that number is going to change. They don't keep score on the scoreboard, they do it with game checks.

I think the FO is sold and wants to save money. Signing him now and save money to pay Cooper and Jaylon.

Most of us have been around to witness our team with a crappy QB.... we've had too many to mention. Dak is far from crappy. Pay him and let's go get our 6th SB. Is overdue!
