He did exceed expectations. As if you go back and look at last years off season and draft comments on here. He was labeled a bust before his flight landed for the Press Conference.

A for the grade.

F for the fans, or some of them.

Tyron can't even stay healthy......so no guarantee he'll be playing.
That's the big decison critera on him at this point. Before the Steele injury, cutting Tyron was likely an easy decision for Stephen Jones; however, now they have to either keep him or sign a free agent OT than can start the entire seaason if needed.

I hope Tyler is taking a victory lap following a season where his performance far exceeded not only fan expectations, but also put the following to shame.

Tim Cowlishaw, Grade: D
On top of that, the Cowboys draft a run-blocking tackle who is extremely young and rated extremely raw in pass protection. It’s a reminder that the Cowboys never approach seasons with urgency, forever pushing future hope on their fans.

David Moore, Grade: C-minus
Dallas has earned the benefit of the doubt with its recent drafts. But, it’s hard to see how Smith, a left tackle who will compete at left guard to get on the field as a rookie, will have an immediate impact.

Blogging the Boys gave him a D- with the consensus draft selection ranking from Dane Brugler being 47th, Daniel Jeremiah placing him @ 42, and Conner Livesay crapping the bed @ #70.

His position flex, performance, and his simply holding-up to the rigors of a 17 game regular season against grown*ss professionals has been fairly remarkable, particularly given the tags the critics were tossing around his neck. We as fans weren’t any better as I remember seeing a twitter poll where 38% of those that weighed-in graded the selection “F”. Not to be a hypocrite, at the time I was thinking C- or a D.

Tyler, thanks for tossing egg (that I gladly wear) on all our faces. I’m thinking he’s gotta come away with at least an “A-“, right?

The worst you can rate him is a B+. IMO, I think he was a solid A with room for improvement. Late 20s pick, literally looks like a franchise LT for the next 10+ years. Get this guy a stable guard to go next to him.

They have Steele coming back, and they have Matt Waletzko who they really like, Josh Ball, Aviante Collins and I'm sure they'll draft another tackle....Tyron Smith would be lucky to play 8 games..

A+ overall for me...B+ as a starting NFL LT in his rookie year is amazing. Probably exceeded even optimistic views. Total home run pick that I honestly thought might be a stretch.

They can't let the entire season hinge on the health of Steele or the ability of Josh Ball, Matt Waletzko and Aviante Collins.

The problem with signing a free agent is that in order to get a quality starter, they would need to give him a multi-year contract.

Anyone who gives him less than A- is a hater. You can’t expect what was considered an unpolished mauler to have as much solid success as he did in multiple positions on the OL.

I give him an A.

I give him an A-

He wasn’t ‘perfect’ but he far exceeded expectations and in my opinion saved the Cowboys’ 2022 season.

A+

Considering that:
1. He's a rookie, and a late 1st draftee and not a Jake Long 1st overall pick who is expected to be a day 1 starter at LT.
2. He got some snaps at LT in minicamp but spent the majority of TC at Left Guard.
3. Gets a solid week of practice in prior to week 1 matchup vs Barrett.
4. Gets moved around throughout the year at LT and LG depending on Peters.
5. If he had a bad game, the confidence never wavered and he would rebound pretty quick.
6. He showed impressive strength in both the run and pass blocking. Even if he had a bad step his natural strength could still stop a bullrush.
7. His hand game was nowhere as bad as the college tape/reports said it was. Credit to him and coaching there.

what else could you ask for from a rookie Tackle playing a franchise position?

C.

I just can't reward a guy who led the league in holding penalties. He wasn't awful and had good moments, but that issue remains a concern.

Smith A-, Williams C, Tolbert Z, Ferguson B-, Waletzko inc, Bland A, Clark B, Ridgeway F, Harper C.
I would be curious to see an explanation from DQ about Sam. It was very odd the limited snaps he got this year considering the production with this limited snaps.
