A
I thought he did a great job on the left side of the line.
He didn't just stop with blocking his guy. He would pursue the play down field and try to take another defender out.
Poor man's Larry Allen.
Yep, he showed he had the god given talent to play against the best players in the world. The desire to just keep looking for someone to block. What's between his ears will determine how good he can be.

That's the big decison critera on him at this point. Before the Steele injury, cutting Tyron was likely an easy decision for Stephen Jones; however, now they have to either keep him or sign a free agent OT than can start the entire seaason if needed.
Plus your going to lose McGovern so even when Steele is back there going to want Tyron, Steele, and Tyler all on the field at the same time.

There's no way they risk 3 starters not playing week 1 (Mcgovern, Tyron, Steele) unless they like you said they open the wallet which isn't cheap for OT help

ESPN writer did a re-draft and Tyler went #6 overall and top OL:

6. Carolina Panthers

Original pick: Ikem Ekwonu, OT
New pick: Tyler Smith, OT
With quarterback Brock Purdy off the board here, it would have been easy to stick with Ekwonu. He had a solid season after a slow start and has shown the promise to be a long-term solution to a longtime issue. Smith, however, graded out slightly higher for the league's ninth-ranked run offense and allowed seven sacks after being thrown into the position right before the season. Ekwonu allowed eight. -- David Newton

I'm not going to lie. My opinion on him is mostly based on what I read from you knowledgeable folks here. I don't really watch individuals during the game, and I don't have time to watch film. From what I'm reading, I'm glad we got him.

A. He was the biggest concern come Week 1. Never heard the guy mentioned in a negative light.

I love the pick. A solid A. Now work on technique to minimize penalties.

Kid is big, mean and powerful - just needs some polishing. He could be great.

Somebody has to play RT in game 1 of 2023.
that's why i'd be on board with a DLaw re-do contract ... love the flexiblity aspect.

,,and not force to go Josh Ball if big injury ... ..

B- grade

a rookie who had technical flaws and not a popular pick among fans and media, not expected to play most '23 at LT in place of injury plagued Tyron.
he held up as a full year- never missed a game - did not play preseason at LT, nor saw much reps at LT in camp.

Late 1st round project expected to play guard in year 1 is thrown into the fire and starts every game at LT, and looked great doing it. A++ for the pick. Solid A for the player.

A + for the big man. To ask him to switch positions so seamlessly is very impressive.

As a rookie performer who was moved around a bit - A+

As an NFL OT compared to all others - B
