What Happened to Cowboys Fans?

Since when? To me the Cowboys fan base has always been the most clueless on the planet.

Any fan base that would hate Romo is completely clueless. And many did it for 10 years straight. Any fan base that would support the horrid Garrett is clueless. Some have done it for 12 years.

Jerry and Garrett should have been run out of town by now. In places with less success like Philly or NY the fans even have higher standards. Heck I lived in Tampa Bay and even those fans were buying billboard space by the stadium to run bad coaches out of town.

Yup the zone had some dumb fans back in 2007 too. More band wagon fans back then than there are now, and a bunch of chicken littles that used to panic at everything.

Well a bit of negativity is needed when it comes to self evaluation. Save the positive for when you team is winning superbowls. :) Geez I remember back in the 90's when people expected to win a super bowl every year >.>
Yes, a little negativity usually coincides with reality, but the extremists, as in every other facet of society, couldn't see the truth through the Hubble Telescope.

I've only been a fan since since the 70's. Don't recall anyone ever calling our fan base intelligent.

Well on places such as ES, they tend to respect the fans that are actually from Dallas a little more versus ones they think are jumping on the band wagon. personally :) dunno how you can have a band wagon if you have as much mediocrity as we have to suffer through.

Over a year ago I posted that the Browns are closer to a SB than we are.
I was ridiculed. And knew I would be. But yet here we are, both teams and their fans on the couch watching it yet again.

The Browns were 3 missed FG's away from being 10-6 IIRC.
They really aren't any further away than we are with the improved season we just had.

their different tiers of Bad. The Browns and Detroit have suffered even more than us. We are on the same tier of bad as the Commanders.

“Dallas is a winners town” as Troy so accurately stated.

We complain all the way to the bank. .

It is. For those of us who listened to sports talk in the Metroplex back in the 90's, know that people were very negative back then, even when we were winning superbowls. Well at least ;) since the days of Switzer.

Excellent post. The "good ole days" weren't all good. To read many of the posts on CZ, you'd think we went to or won the Super Bowl every year during the Landry era. The reality is we played in 5 in a 9 year span, winning 2 and losing 3. Prior to 1970, we were 1-4 in the playoffs, including back to back years when we were the prohibitive favorite and were bounced in the opening game by Cleveland. There was no shortage of thought that a different coach was needed to get the team over the hump. Add to that the final 6 years which resulted in only 2 Wild Card playoff appearances, both 1 and done endeavors.

My post isn't to diminish Landry or say that he wasn't an outstanding coach because he was. But many of the posters on here, if they were of age in the late 80s, were probably amongst those that were saying the game had passed him by and time for him to go. IMHO, the Cowboys wouldn't have had the success they had in the 90s had Jones not bought the team, fired Landry and brought in Jimmy.
And we've been paying for it ever since. Loved those early 90's teams but that was because Jerry brought in Jimmy. If he didn't do that we wouldn't have won all those Sbs. And Jerry was a great owner then. Never had a complaint about him when we were winning those titles. He's not the same owner now. He changed when Jimmy left. I never bashed Landry in the late 80's even when we were struggling. To me he was the Dallas Copwboys. And during the 70's and early 80's I never complained about him because we were competing for championships every year. We haven't competed for anything other than the mediocre NFC East title this whole century.

Problem is we have the most media. Media knows our name is automatic click bait. There’s 10 cowboys tweets for every 1 tweet elsewhere

No.........I think one of the big reasons that Jerry is able to be so flippant in his coaching and what he does is because not only the media, but the fanbase as a whole are soft on him. If the media was hammering Garrett every day, hammering Jones, the fans were putting up signs in the stands and taking out billboards to fire Garrett then Jones would feel much much more pressure to do it. Even talk radio is soft on Jones.

The attitude is much the same as you just pointed. He isnt going anywhere so whatever attitude. People are going to go to the games regardless.

I think Jones has already lived through that with a much more successful coach than Garrett. The pressure on Jones and the Coach was intense back in the Barry Switzer Era. In fact, I think the local media took it a bit too far and were a bit too negative back then. The worst probably was then Dallas Morning News sports journalist Randy Galloway. At one point, he stopped calling switzer, switzer even  and said from now on he would call him soemthing like ISP for Insignificant Sideline personal. Think readership finally got fed up and now he is on the star telegram.

I find Cowboys fans to be much more intelligent today than yesteryear.

We use to be one of the most intelligent fan bases in the NFL. Now we hang off of every word of the media's click bait that is purposely targeting our uniformed response.

Speak for yourself. I believe there are plenty like me, who read and listen a lot, but don't chime in and sway with every breeze. Case in point, I've been on this board for many years, and I have no idea what my post count is, but I probably average a couple dozen a year.

ok edit, 756/13= 58 per year. must have been on a roll back in 2009.

What makes this board great is that we have a guy starting a thread here calling some Cowboys fans unintelligent while he's in another thread saying Jason Garrett is probably better than Sean Payton as a head coach.
LOL, perfect parry!

Might you direct me to this brilliance? Jason>Sean

The bar for Cowboys fans has really been lowered. Otherwise every fan would be on the same page not just hoping for better, but expecting Championships. Most here think the problem is with Jerry, Dak, or Garrett. Jerry is going nowhere and I would certainly like to see Dak without Garrett to know how good he could be. The perception of Goff changed overnight when McVay took over the Rams. If Dak can't do it with a different coach, then we move on.

The negative tend to be the most outspoken, so when you get a few of them shouting mindless drivel, the mob mentality takes effect, and others who normally wouldn't have that point of view are swayed to light their torches and grab their pitchforks.
And bingo was his name-o.

Football fans around the league seem to be unintelligent.. or maybe a lot of people just let their blindness, hatred, or bias get in the way of what they are saying.

There are people that wondered how in the hell Cole Beasley's knee down catch week 17 was a touchdown. Knee down = two feet.. its been that way for how long? But instead since people hate the Cowboys they question the call. People also don't understand the cap.. and also want to go after "name" players that dont really have it anymore. Some arent satisfied until theres an all pro at every position with starter type players backing them up for "depth" just cant have it all
