Very good opening post, Prox. Welcome to the board.
Thanks for the kind words.
I continue to be perplexed by the very same question you have brought up. I have asked it myself many times around here and yet to have an answer. As you can see in this thread, you were met more with accusations and defensive postures rather than a true answering of your question. Don't expect that to change anytime soon. It's pretty sad that it results in that kind of reaction rather than a good quality, civil discussion. Only one poster that falls into your criteria really answered your question, and that was KJJ.
Agreed. As I stated in my original post, I don't normally participate in internet message boards, and I generally don't interact with a lot of Cowboys fans (due to the area I live in and the people I surround myself with), and when I started really reading this board I was seriously surprised at the level of negativity. Now, I agree, there's not much to be happy about considering the team's recent track record (especially the last 2 years). But some individuals seem outright miserable. Hopeless even.
Due to the attitude on this board the last couple of years, I have recently begun tuning it out. I come here for news and to occasionally attempt to discuss issues that interest me, but I often find myself not reading through threads like I used to, and I have become accustomed to simply skipping over certain people's post because I already know exactly what they're going to say. I feel like I have to make my thoughts known about the lack of quality of the Dallas media around here as well. Other than WG's numerous news updates and Couchscouts excellent insight, I don't find anything else of use here anymore.
I used to have a good time here because good quality discussion happened. Now the only time I am unhappy as a Cowboys fan is when I visit this board.
It is because of the attitude of certain posters around here. I used to brush them off and think "haters gonna hate", but it just has grown to a point where it is not worth the time anymore. I know now that I will never get that question, "Why are you still a Cowboys fan?" truly answered.
I said recently that I believe if I were not a Cowboys fan, I'd probably hate this fanbase.
I think that's a very legitimate statement.
This occurs in my own family as well. There are a couple people in my family that I will not watch a game with anymore (except for Thanksgiving) because it is constant negativity no matter what they do. The only cheering that occurs is when we score a touchdown, then they're back to complaining the very next play.
I think the above paragraph really describes the fans that I was originally referring to. When you become so negative that it actually takes away from what I think is the most enjoyable part of being a fan: WATCHING THE GAMES and enjoying a nice win without complaining.
If this team ever does achieve something great, it will be really interesting to see how those individuals react and feel. What's sad is that I truly believe they will look back and realize they missed out on the journey. A Super Bowl won't be as sweet for them because they didn't appreciate what getting there took. I for one am enjoying the journey with this team.
