And it's not just Catch. Norm was saying this morning that Rex Ryan would have to "clean up his act" a little if he wanted to be considered seriously as a head coach.

Fair or no, the perception is that if you look that sloppy, you might not be that competent. Not to mention these days of having to represent the franchise on TV so much.

I think the poster is just making a point that if Wade Phillips were younger, and more emotional, we would all immediately latch onto him, which is true, the youth part that is

No we'd want Wade if he hadnt already made a couple stops elsewhere with less than stellar results.

I dont know what makes some primetime coordinators really good head coaches and others not so good.

Wades the type of guy I would have no problem at all turning a defense over to. But if he's overseeing the whole show, no thank you. Not only do I think it wouldnt be a good idea for the team as a whole, I dont think the defense would be as good as it otherwise could be either cause he wouldnt be devoting as much time strictly to that.

Course for that matter even though he's had some highly ranked defenses statistically, he's got lit up pretty good in some playoff games too. Whether thats due to being out-manned or out-coached, take your pick

I agree....pretty sure a Phillips' coached Oklahoma team would have beaten Boise Freakin' State.

It blows my mind how many people are missing his point here. People are in love with the idea of Bob Stoops because he's a young fiery guy. If Wade Phillips were that young, fiery guy with the same resume (somehow) would people be so opposed to it?

I want the fattest ugliest head coach ever. Maybe even a guy who is missing a limb or two. That would be cool.

Who cares what he looks like? Just hope he brings in a capable DC and OC.

Well then don't post in the thread that asks the hypothetical question. The whole thing is a hypothetical. I'm pretty sure the original poster knows that Phillips isn't actually Stoops - and that he doesn't have the same resume, but he asked a hypothetical question.
