What is the answer on defense?

I consider yesterday's performance an anomaly. I expect the team to improve next week and continue improving the remainder of the season.

They got kicked in the mouth early this season; for that, I'm grateful. They can respond or they can quit. We'll see.

Don't get too confident. You have still have to account for Garrett-Top on the sideline......

I say bring in Rex Ryan and let him mix things up some as a DC. can't be any worse than what we have now. but this would probably have to wait until the off season to learn the schemes. so Rod is it baby....

OMG NO IF JERRY BRINGS BACK THAT FAT I AN DONE AS A COWBOY FAN

Among our 5 expected starters in the secondary (OScan, Brown, Carroll, Heath, Jones), who would start for any of the top 10 defenses in the league? It sure looks like a talent problem to me. I hope these rookies can eventually change that, but at this point that assumes we aren't competing right now for the top prize. That is a mistake given the cap opening having Dak on a 4th round contract affords the team.

I think both Scandrick and Brown could at least be nickel guys for some top 10 defenses. I mean for example, right now, Philly is a Top 10 defense and their CBs blow with Darby out. Scandrick and Brown are both better than Jalen Mills, for example.

Brown and Scandrick would look much better than they already do if we had the Eagles front four who can smoke opposing OLs.

Mostly I think the talent simply isn't there on D. It's a boring answer but I think it's just the truth. I'd love to be proven wrong though.

Richard Sherman If this team was serious they'd pull the trigger. We cannot beat ATL or Gb in playoffs. He would bring us to another tier defensively .

Yah, Philly has a pretty sad back end. With their front 7 all of our secondary guys would look a lot better.

I do like Brown going forward, but OScan just seems like he's at that point where it's always going to be something, and he doesm't seem to be one of those guys who play at a high level with nagging injuries, so he isn't going to be on the field regularly from here on out.

Richard Sherman would not have turned that loss into a win yesterday.
Of course not. But we are a division winner at best and that's it. You cannot beat ATL or GB with our secondary there's no way. Our absolute best is divisional round again and done.

This may be the worse secondary we've ever had. Caroll makes Carr look all pro. Heath is a decent back up. Jones is a CB playing safety and scandrick a always hurt.

We'll see what the Cowboys can do.

We were bad at every phase of defense and the only positive that came out of that game was Demarcus Lawrence..

Anyways..

Stopping the run was the #1 issue yesterday. If we can't stop the run then it's pretty much game over for our defense. We were #1 against the run last year so hopefully McClains departure didn't hurt us that much.

The quick passing was the next thing we couldn't stop..

IMO, the linebackers looked lost trying to cover in the middle of the field and then our DB's gave them whatever they wanted in the flats.

Yesterday we needed more Damien Wilson on the field then Jaylon Smith. I know Jaylon is playing good against the run but Lee was lumbering around out there trying to cover and Jaylon was even worse.

I don't know what we are going to do against any team going forward that has a stout run game and an efficient quick passing game.
its simple...learn to tackle.... if we tackle, we make three stops in the first half and force them to punt.....then when they converted a few 3rd downs, we panicked and everyone forgot game plan and did their own thing and they all looked like fools.

Agreed.

To over-react after one butt-kicking early in the season vs. a good team in their house... Well, I'd give it some time.

Yeah i'm not going to over-react because good teams do get torched in the NFL but we couldn't even get them to punt because our zones had gaping holes in them and the middle of our defense was too slow to get to the ball.

The problem is if we play with smaller guys then we'll just get ran on. Yesterday both things happened.

I just don't know what the answer is other then we need more quality on the defensive side of the ball.

I told myself before the season that the defense would get better as the season went on but I didn't think we would look so helpless.

We have a Plan A.. Run the ball, have manageable 3rd downs, and keep our defense off the field.

Defensively our plan A is bend but don't break.

Well yesterday is an example of what could happen if our plan A isn't working and the answer with the coaches is to stick with plan A until we are 3 scores down.

I don't know if the Cowboys are just super limited in their system now that Romo is gone or what.

Dak is better at running the system how it was intended to be ran but yesterday was a day that we desperately needed our QB to have a Tony Romo type of performance with his arm.

Defensively we just stay in the same defensive looks and when a Pro QB keeps destroying the look we give them then it's probably not going to get better but it's like we refuse to make an adjustment until it's too late.

More talent up the middle. Our DTs are garbage players. Nothing more to say there. Jaylon Smith can't shed a block to save his life, he's been out of football for 2 years, and both of our safeties suck at tackling. Heath just shoulder charges, and Jones doesn't want anything to do with the play. Barry Church sucked, but at least he would come up and tackle.
