Good things about Dak
- Great leader
- Extreme work ethic
- Throws well on the run
- Good at presnap reads
- Runs strong when he decides to
- Knows the offense
Unfortunate things about Dak
- Struggles with pocket presence (WC has helped with this)
- Almost never throws the ball away
- Struggles to see field in zone post snap (WC has helped with this)
- Inconsistent accuracy/touch at all levels (WC has amplified this weakness)
- Struggles with anticipation throws
- Always seems to wait 2 seconds too long before deciding to scramble
Summary
- Every time we play from behind, you are going to be frustrated with Dak. Playing from behind forces him to hang in the pocket, make tight, anticipatory throws, and read complex zone defenses. Those are ALL weaknesses for him.
- I think the coaching staff has modified the offense to give him the best chance to play well as long as he plays with a lead. He needs a strong defense and OL to play well.
- McCarthy running the ball so much in the last 8 minutes of the Cards game shows that he understands Dak’s limitations, and is trying to limit Daks weaknesses.
- Dak cannot overcome a bad game from his defense. He is not a ‘carry the team’ QB.
- All of these traits existed in his Mississippi State scouting report. He’s still that QB.
- In the NFL, he is a top 15 QB and waffles between top 8 and bottom 10 play depending on game circumstances. Over time, better young players will slowly push him down in rankings (Love, Hurts, Tua, Class of 2024, etc)
Do I personally think he should be resigned? No. The value he provides would not match the $ he demands. I would only resign him with intent to waive the no trade clause to trade him, but I doubt that’s on the table.
