What is wrong with Romo?

Coaching more than anything in my opinion. Garrett's system is what it's always been; predictable, unimaginative and reactionary. Throw in the influence of Bill Callahan and it gets even worse.

This. The fact that Romo is at his best in a no huddle offense is not, imho, a coincidence.

I actually think he's been a little off this year. Maybe he's trying too hard not to make the bad plays that he's missed several good ones.

I think despite his lower interception numbers that he's definitely had better years, but everyone keeps harping on the interceptions and he's changed his game some to not be that guy. Add that to a system that doesn't do everything it can to put its best players in position to make plays and you have an offense that is just not as effective.

I'm a big supporter of Romo and think he has been abused by fans and media for years, but either he has to go back to being that exciting player who takes chances or he needs a system that creates better opportunities for him to be conservative and still be successful moving the team up and down the field.

That was a refreshing read. Not just blindly supporting the guy and pointing to stats, but being honest with what you are seeing.

And as soon as he throws a pick on a jump ball to Dez in the 4th quarter.................there will be 100 threads saying "Turnover Tony" cost us the game.

He had 500 yards and 5 TDs and had 1 bad throw that resulted in a pick against Denver and he was crucified by the fans, by the media, by everybody.

Funny how the same people calling for him to just air it out and not worry about the ints will be the first ones complaining about how much of a choker he is when he does throw a pick.

Spot on, sir.

the whole thing with the denver game is a microcosm of the entire Romo situation. The guy outplayed Peyton Manning when Manning was hot all game and then as I recall he got his foot stepped on as he was throwing and between that and other things a great play was made by a DB. Yet all you heard about was Romo throwing the pick that ended the game. Nothing else.

Excellent. Another Romo thread. Wonder how this one turns out. 10 pages.

And we are here. Predict something else, like Cowboys go on run and win SB, or JJ fires himself, or Cowboys hire such and such outstanding future HOF young coach that yikes it's next great dynasty.

When did espn put out the word for future sports journalists to come to this thread while for someone to replace Skip and SAS?

Romo seems like he is scared to through the ball down feild. I don't know whats going on with this.

Scared to throw down field, scared to throw into tight windows, scared to take a hit, scared to run with the ball.

You would rather lose and see pretty stats. Good for you. I have posted more stats defending Tony on this site than anyone so know what you are talking about. This team sucks too much for him to be a "game manager" we need to take chances when our D cant stop anyone. He needs to not worry about the people who will cry over a pick and AIR IT OUT!! Wake up

Some forget the offense scored the two touchdowns in the their first three possessions against the Bears. Then came a three and out with two dropped passes and the Bears were off to the races. It's really hard to stay engaged with a defense as sorry as thing one. There is just no way to blame Romo or the offense for this mess.

Its not blame. It is just about having to change the game plan or mindset once you realize your D is useless.
The denver game was exactly what I mean. I was not mad at Tony at all for the one int and anyone who blames him is a moron. When you score 48 AT home you should win everytime period. They need to play that attacking offense from now on to have any chance.

I find it hard to believe that for the last 7 years under Romo we have not been able to put a team on the field that could get deep in the play-offs. I have read every excuse there is and this year looks as if it will be no different.

Take away the defensive scores and let me know where we rank. What we should really look at is total offense to gauge how good it is. My guess would be mediocre.

On average, Dallas starts with poor field postion due to thsi defesne you speak of. Yes, early on htey helped out a lot with some scores. But if anything, the offesne does what they in spite of our crappy defesne, ncertainly not becasue of it.

I do agree that although this is the 3rd or 4th leading scoring team in the league, no way Dallas has the 3rd or 4th best offense. But take away all of the early season defesne scores and they still will be ranked in the top 8-10 in scoring.

I dont want to hear from the fantasy football stat bois.

The excitement and improvisation is gone. He doesnt make big plays any more.

Is it coaching or another one of Jerry's kids that gets a huge contract and dials it in?

He has a wife and a baby. Then he signs a new $108 million contract. Then now he has a 2nd child on the way. Maybe he thinks his contract should have been bigger. It's a weight on his mind....

He's playing like Alex Smith.

You see, the thing is Alex Smith has a defense. He's had good defenses throughout his career.

But this doesn't surprise me one bit. It's exactly what I thought it would be. Comical at best.

So true. It is alarming how every year, it's something new.

This year, the theme is, defense sucks. I predicted last year after we were "once again" knocked out of the playoffs, that this year we would have a brand new excuse, and wallah, here it is.
The guy doesn't move the team up and down the field consistently. And you can't make a living out of falling behind and coming back at the end. The reason you fell behind was because your offense simply can't keep up.

This defense SUCKS! Hallelujah, we know this. Now what about the offense? If you think this offense is something special and has been doing their part with hardly any injures, then you're flat out blind. This offense continues to get draft picks, and continues to have the so called "SUPER STAR QB" yet we are pedestrian. I hate sitting back and watching quarterbacks back up, see target, hit target. Not back up, bounce bounce bounce, pressure gets there, duck, sack. Or here's a good one, 3rd and 9, back, no pressure, bounce bounce bounce, no pressure, throw to Witten who's 7 yards short of the first down.

Watch the games man, stop looking at the stat sheet. To me, I know and I can see clearly that the defense sucks. I don't need the stat sheet to know this. So I expect our offense to move the ball efficiently up and down that field. Doesn't mean you have to score TDs all the time, but there should not be 2 and 3 quarters where you can't score.

The only credit I will give to Romo is that I thought that Garrett had a more aggressive approach when he called plays. He was a sling it type of play caller, where as Callahan is a chicken **** play caller. Now, in the Garrett, sling it offense, we had a lot of turnovers but we put up monster numbers. The reason we had a lot of turnovers is because Romo doesn't have the arm to get it there, and his decision making is average at best. But, we did put pressure on defenses. With this new scheme, it completely exposes Romo. So since we're keeping this dude, may as well go back to throwing INTs so that our offense can be explosive. And in a crunch time game, put the ball in Murray's hand and out of Romo's.

The beginning of the end of Romo in Dallas?

Seriously?

The only problem with this scenario is we just gave him $52 million guaranteed on a new $108 million dollar contract...................do you know what the cap penalty will be if we traded or released him in the offseason?..........Around $40 million roughly

Romo is not going anywhere for a very long, long, long, time. At least 3 to 4 years before we could even think about trading or releasing him without having to gut the roster to absorb the cap penalty.

That is why all of these Romo threads are pointless...........no matter what you think of the guy, the decision has already been made...............its like talking about closing the barn door once the horse is already out..........kinda pointless.

By saying "beginning of the end" I really didn't put a time limit on it. Furthermore, by "end" I didn't mean it's the "end" of his time as Dallas' QB. I just think the hill is pretty much downhill from here for him. I don't see him getting any better...fathertime will make sure he gets progressively worse.

He is playing more like Alex Smith than before. Some truth there.

But it would be a much, MUCH better version of Alex Smith.

Romo is better at his postion in all measurable individual categories:
Way better QB rating: 98 to 85
Way more TD passes: 27 to 18
Yet still a way better TD:INT ratio
More total yards
better completion %

etc, etc

Not close at all.

But Smith has an amazing defense and running game.
Dallas is somewhere between 13-1 and 11-3 with that defense.

You don't have to convince me, I know that Romo is a much better player. But this is what happens when you try to be a game manager on the Dallas Cowboys, with a ****** defense included. It just doesn't work. To think Alex Smith would be good on our team instead of Romo is HILARIOUS.
