What is wrong with Romo?

Here's a surprising stat:

Romo's TD/INT in the Cowboys 7 wins is 12/6 and his TD/INT in the Cowboys 6 losses is 15/1.

Take away his game against Denver where he had 5 TD's and 1 INT he had 10 TD's and ZERO INT in the other 5 losses.

The defense has given up over 30 points in 5 of the Cowboys 6 losses. In 3 of their 6 losses the defense gave up 45 points or more.

you really want to know? He knows his defense is the worst the nfl has ever seen and playing mistake free on offense is the only way we have a chance to win. He could do what he normally does but those shovel passes before the sack, those rollout escapes, those avoid 3 guys spinning around while staying in the pocket all have a possibility of a turnover as does throwing to dez in double coverage even though he would come down with it 80% of the time and we can't afford any of those because there absolutely zero confidence that the D will be able to overcome the short field. The strategy to me seems to be take what is there, don't do anything that could result in a turnover and hope that it is enough.

"Take whats there" Is the Garret (loser) philosophy.

Pretty interesting stat.

Wonder why I didn't think to post that before.

I get tired of reading the same "career high TD pace, career low TO pace" angle. That's true. And it's fantastic for the stat line. But I don't think it's that great for the team.

Yeah, obviously you want to cut back on TOs and score more, but not to the extent that you're playing not to lose. Should be playing to win.

I dont want to hear from the fantasy football stat bois.

The excitement and improvisation is gone. He doesnt make big plays any more.

Is it coaching or another one of Jerry's kids that gets a huge contract and dials it in?

So basically your question is: why isn't Romo still a dynamic player? (but don't use any stats. Those might prove me wrong)

Just following the Garret code on that, lol. As long as Red is HC, it's going to be that way.

Uhhh no. If you read my posts you would realize I am one of the biggest Romo fanbois.

Something is seriously wrong here.

There's no mystery here. The gunslinging days are over. Playing like a glorified Alex Smith is actually a decent strategy, we just picked the absolute worst season to start (worst NFL defense ever, literally).

That is not who he is or who he will ever be.

Right but that kind of proves my point that usually if your defense gives up that many points you're probably going to abandon the run completely and take more chances to come back in the game possibly equalling in more INT's. Obviously I don't want him to throw interceptions but it's crazy that in 6 losses he's only thrown 1 interception and that came at the end of the Denver game. I really think Garrett's offense has handcuffed him.

He's playing smart football. I'm all for this "new Romo".

He realizes he's 33 and isn't as athletic as he used to be.

He also realizes that at age 33 he's more prone to getting injured if he does take a big hit, so he's avoiding those. Took him less than 1 half of football in Week 1 to be reminded of that. And without Romo, this team has no chance.

Finally, he realizes that he must protect the ball better if we're going to ever be a great team. 22 turnovers last year, 8 turnovers this year. Mission accomplished.

Now if only we could field a decent defense.

This seems to be as reasonable an answer as any. He's played well enough to win. It's not great, as in light up the scoreboard Peyton Manning great, but with some help from the supporting cast, including coaches who could use the run more and an O-Line that while better still has a way to go, the W/L column would be much better.

Jerry said the defense is going to have to take more risks which is going to lead to more big plays against the defense. The offense is going to have to take more risks down the field to score enough points to overcome their defense. The plan of trying to run the ball hasn't worked for the Cowboys because it doesn't generate enough points. Of the 28 points the team scored Monday Night 21 was via the passing game. The Cowboys are going to have to allow Romo to be aggressive down the field.

For years, many in our fan base complained when he took chances.

Then, when he stops taking chances, they complain.

No wonder why this fan base, like our team, is the laughingstock of the NFL. Our fan base is equally dumb and pathetic as the team.

There's no doubt about that. When Romo does show moments of greatness, it's him being a "gunslinger" and just making things happen. He's so damn robotic this year, it's just not him.

He is satisfied with where he is at. 2 big deal contracts , +60 mill and 100+, a gm that supports him 100%, never had to earn or try hard to keep his job. This guy is a made man why should he work hard ? This guy know his job is secure for another 2 years and have a guaranteed 50 million to look forward to.

Do you guys remember last year when everyone thought Romo would take a "friendly" deal ?... Sure it was friendly top paid ffriendly , esp for a qb who really hasn't done much but pad a qb rating.
The idea that Tony Romo doesn't work hard at his job is completely ridiculous. Every scrap of information that comes out of Valley Ranch is that he is among the hardest workers on the team. Especially in terms of preparation.
