What it takes for Cowboys to be a Super Bowl Contender?

Cowboys’ Offense

Yards/game ranked 4th

Pts/Game ranked 7th

Cowboys’ Defense

Least yards/game ranked 12th lowest

Least Points/game ranked 7th lowest

What this says is that the Cowboys Offense is efficient and is good enough to be a Super bowl type offense. The Cowboys Defense is alright but needs to be a top 5 defense to be a Super Bowl type defense. What do we need to do to be 5th ranked defense by week 16 of the season?:)

Passrush...Another killer LB and some fresh blood at DB.

Honestly, l really believe Gregory will be an asset for the club. He has the talent. He only smoked pot...players should not be suspended and punished for that. The league needs to take a more mature view of it and make policy changes.
I'm with you. Maybe the last two games he can get in shape for our run. Seems quite possible.

I have much more faith in Dak and the offense continuing to improve. I think that the more he plays, the better he will become at 'pulling the trigger' and throwing before he has to 'see it'. And I expect his most recent game to be a real learning experience for him.

Defensively, I think that they're playing well past their pedigree and talent. And that's a big credit to Rod Marinelli, a coach that I have been very critical of. He has his 'orphans' playing very well. But now I worry about the effect the Claiborne and Church injuries might have.

The pass rush - and lack thereof - continues to concern me and I don't see a fix coming, especially with the trade deadline passed.

We'd likely need a better defense. Ours has well outperformed the sum of its parts, but I don't see it as a Superbowl caliber defense.
With our inability to add an impact rusher before the deadline - likely the right call based on reports that teams may have tried to gouge us - I am forced to agree. I think this D could take a leap into elite level with a consistent pass rush and all other things equal. Alas - that's a fix that likely comes next year unless some shocking development occurs with the players we currently run out there. Rt now I don't see it.

Absolutely. Prescott is the road ahead. The defense should be given the boost in the off season. They need a tough defensive player, like a Haley, togive the defense a character and its a certainty they need to freshen up the DB corp. To me, Mo is not reliable. Carr is playing well, presently, but is a FA. This team will win a SB with just a little Defensive improvement.

Jaylon Smith being able to play would be huge next year. Maybe between Tapper and a draft pick can help with the pass rush.

We need to draft defense and have some players that can make an impact next year as a rookie. I'm still surprised how well Bosa has played this year.

4 teams in the last 7-8 years have won a SB with Ds ranked 12-19 (Pats), so no, we don't need a top 5 defense.
where were those defenses in the sack rankings? And is your measure yards per game (this is the typical one used for the rankings)? Points per? Turnovers? Just curious...

with regards to D - pass rush will likely remain Achilles' heal for rest of year as I see it. Rod is not very keen on manufacturing pressure (blitzing) and tends to play coverage in his bend/don't break emphasis. Now that secondary has taken hits it'll be interesting to see how that approach holds up. We will likely still need to play keep away in terms of offensive TOP to have any shot this year.

I am holding out hope that the unit will somehow produce a miracle year and do just enough to help us win it.

The offense is good enough and sustainable

The defense is playing way over its head and is going to fall apart later in the year

We need Gregory, Ro, and Smith to show up if we want to have s realistic chance

I understand your opinion (that pot should not be punished) but knowing the consequences he willingly put pot before the game, his team and his career. Does he really have the desire to play and if so to be effective? Or is he just another lazy weak minded McClain type athlete? We don't even know if he's that good of a player in an NFL environment. Crazier things have happened and he could come around but you have to question his character and desire right off the top. Then see if he can really effectively compete on an level to get on the 53.

You and me both. I have faith that Scandrick and Brown can do at least a fair job of replacing Claiborne, but he was having a great season and will be missed.

But I'm still not sure about replacing Church. Wilcox still scares me, even though he looks much improved.
