He was addicted to pot.

I might understand giving a pass to a player who smokes pot like you might enjoy a beer or glass of wine every once in awhile. But not to a guy who has to light up multiple times a day. That's a problem.

In today's NFL we do. Who in the NFC is a complete team?

Minn - good defense, terrible offense
Atl - great offense, terrible defense
Seattle - great defense, terrible offense
GB - good offense, shaky defense
Phil - shaky offense, great defense

and on and on and on. We have just a solid of chance of representing the NFC as any other team. Good QB play and injuries will determine who goes to Houston from the NFC.

You and me both. I have faith that Scandrick and Brown can do at least a fair job of replacing Claiborne, but he was having a great season and will be missed.

But I'm still not sure about replacing Church. Wilcox still scares me, even though he looks much improved.
Yeah. JJ has stepped up to a degree. I actually credit Byron Jones play/presence for the overall rise in the secondary's performance. He's been phenomenal. It will be interestibg to see how much he's pressed into CB responsibilities given our relative thinning at that position. I think Jeff Heath will need to be a factor as his reps will most assuredly go up during this stretch. He's the one who sort of scares me in this scenario. Even more than JJ. Rod may be forced to blitz more to cover up any weaknesses in coverage. Will be interesting to watch how this unfolds.

I'm on this wagon. The Claiborne injury is not as bad as the Church injury. Both safety's were playing so well together with strong communication and coverage activity. Wilcox just does not seem to be that cerebral. He is a poor to average tackler (oh he can hit but he gets beat a lot trying to bring the wood) and his coverage skills are decent. We need a strong tackler at that position and he's a big down grade from Church.

We'd likely need a better defense. Ours has well outperformed the sum of its parts, but I don't see it as a Superbowl caliber defense.

Possession is also a form of defense and we are the best at holding onto the football.

I'm really not worried about the defense unless it's out there with the game on the line.

How many easy TD's have we gave teams this year? We force teams to take the long way to the endzone.

Also, we're getting a turnover almost every game.

NFC is weak. We are easily a contender to make the Super Bowl.

I do think that Denver's defense would give us troubles and NE is on another level though.

Been saying this for a while. NFC scares me less so than potentially facing Brady with no ability to rush the passer. I hope Rod can find some magic between now and then cuz I think we've got one helluva shot with the way the conference stacks up.

Cowboys’ Offense

Yards/game ranked 4th

Pts/Game ranked 7th

Cowboys’ Defense

Least yards/game ranked 12th lowest

Least Points/game ranked 7th lowest

What this says is that the Cowboys Offense is efficient and is good enough to be a Super bowl type offense. The Cowboys Defense is alright but needs to be a top 5 defense to be a Super Bowl type defense. What do we need to do to be 5th ranked defense by week 16 of the season?:)

Yep, teams like New Orleans and Indianapolis were top 5 ranked defenses.

Pfft.

The offense is good enough and sustainable

The defense is playing way over its head and is going to fall apart later in the year

We need Gregory, Ro, and Smith to show up if we want to have s realistic chance
We also need Church and Claiborne to get healthy, sooner rather than later. One more injury in the secondary could be devastating for this defense, if it isn't already. We'll find out, if not this week, when we play Pittsburg (if Big Ben plays).

We need to get healthy fast. We need DLaw and Gregory back in game shape.

We need a few breaks. We were a few plays from losing against the Skins and Iggles.

Firing Rod Marinelli and replacing him with the true Jedi Warrior Master - Monte Kiffin.

Thanks. I was going to ask for this Stat.

Total defense is a bad way to view a defense IMO. For example, yes, that 2014 Pats team was like 15th in yard per game, but they were 7th or 8th in points allowed and I believe they had over 40 sacks that year.

Right now, this Cowboys team is Top 10 in scoring, which is good, but they are on pace for like 30 sacks. That's a problem IMO as most SB winning teams can get after the QB. The 2009 New Orleans team seems to be the anomaly as they weren't very good statistically in total yards, points per game and sacks. But I think they were near the top of the league in forcing turnovers that year which covered up some of their flaws.

The pot restrictions in the NFL are ridiculous. It significantly hurts the game, and it does nothing for the overall perception of the league. So I generally agree on Gregory.

That said, there were rumblings he and Hardy were hanging out and that Hardy was a negative influence on Randy last season. That doesn't necessarily mean coke, but I took that to mean that coke was involved at some point. This is on top of Gregory's bipolar disorder or whatever it is and the self-medicating with pot stuff.

That said again, he's having (or just had) a baby girl, and maybe hanging with the hare krishna during physical rehab is a big step in the right direction for Gregory. He's a player I really hope comes back, but someone whose production I'm always going to consider 'gravy,' because I fully expect him to screw up permanently at some point down the road.
