What it takes for Cowboys to be a Super Bowl Contender?

Based on the fact that the so-called top defenses are currently existing on teams like Seattle and Minnesota that are struggling on offense, if our defense could actually continue to perform at their current pace, we certainly are SB contenders, whether we think we deserve it or not. Even Arizona, a preseason favorite, is struggling on both sides of the ball. I see only one team in the NFC that could be capable of running us off the field on any given day.

The problem, I think, comes into play when we face an offensive juggernaut like Atlanta. We have been fortunate not to face any offense this season hitting on all cylinders the way the Falcons are. Right now, we would struggle with their running game; we would struggle to get any pressure on Matt Ryan behind a formidable OL; and they have two big, tall, strong, fast WR's along with a solid supporting group.

I'm not saying we couldn't score with them and perhaps beat them, but I am saying that Atlanta looks like the cream of the crop in the NFC; every other team seems to be struggling on defense or offense. The Cowboys are a SB contender as long as the defense doesn't suffer any more injuries and the offense stays on pace with their scoring.

We are so close to being Super Bowl bound. If we had Lorenzo Alexander, Zach Brown, and Marcus Peters we would destroy everyone and win the Lombardi trophy multiple times.

Well 6-1 after playing Philly, Bengals, Packers ect, would make this team contenders. You cant point to 4 better teams, thus we are contenders. Sorry naysayers I speakuth the truth.

Cowboys’ Offense

Yards/game ranked 4th

Pts/Game ranked 7th

Cowboys’ Defense

Least yards/game ranked 12th lowest

Least Points/game ranked 7th lowest

What this says is that the Cowboys Offense is efficient and is good enough to be a Super bowl type offense. The Cowboys Defense is alright but needs to be a top 5 defense to be a Super Bowl type defense. What do we need to do to be 5th ranked defense by week 16 of the season?:)
We are 2 good DEs and a run stuffer away.
The offense is good enough to go all the way.

So the answer is that if a few of our injured and suspended players come back we still are coming up short. So at this time we are looking at maybe a NFC Championship playoff appearance this year but will need another draft to go to the Super Bowl. Thanks every one for your opinion.

I can appreciate the effort you put into this but I believe your reasoning is flawed. You really don't have to have both; an elite offense or defense can win a Super Bowl with an average other side of the ball as well. Furthermore, by design the Cowboys sacrifice yards to the opposing offense. They are a bend don't break capitalize on mistakes defense that tries to force field goals if all else fails. But the odds dictate a mistake will be made within the confines of a 12 play drive down the field. Be it by merit of presnap penalty/other penalty, sack, tackles for loss or the everso coveted turnover, the Cowboys are hedging their bets one if not a combination of all will occur. Ultimately what this means is they likely don't look pretty on the stat sheet, but the numbers in this case don't tell the whole story.:)
