Based on the fact that the so-called top defenses are currently existing on teams like Seattle and Minnesota that are struggling on offense, if our defense could actually continue to perform at their current pace, we certainly are SB contenders, whether we think we deserve it or not. Even Arizona, a preseason favorite, is struggling on both sides of the ball. I see only one team in the NFC that could be capable of running us off the field on any given day.
The problem, I think, comes into play when we face an offensive juggernaut like Atlanta. We have been fortunate not to face any offense this season hitting on all cylinders the way the Falcons are. Right now, we would struggle with their running game; we would struggle to get any pressure on Matt Ryan behind a formidable OL; and they have two big, tall, strong, fast WR's along with a solid supporting group.
I'm not saying we couldn't score with them and perhaps beat them, but I am saying that Atlanta looks like the cream of the crop in the NFC; every other team seems to be struggling on defense or offense. The Cowboys are a SB contender as long as the defense doesn't suffer any more injuries and the offense stays on pace with their scoring.
