Why not? Surely someone of such high character and extraordinary moral fabric wouldn't let this issue go unaddressed?

No. I'm not.

Okay, I'll play.

1. He finally got the contract he's wanted. Neither of the previous teams he played for did that.

2. He's finally got a Head Coach who takes no crap. I've met Andy Reid and he's a very nice guy, but he isn't the scary persona Parcells is. Mooch is known as a pushover. They didn't shout him down, Parcells is going to.

3. He got taught a lesson in 2005 and he isn't stupid. He knows this is probably his last chance.

4. In the Press Conference he gave Jerry Jones his word that he won't let this team, Jerry, or the fans down.

5. He said he was going to "embrace the star." One thing he's doing that he's never done before is hosting a football camp for youth. This forum has 3 kids going to that football camp. Money was donated by members here. He's reaching out and giving back.

6. I've been in contact on the phone with his publicist over the camp mentioned above. She said to me on the phone that he has "never been happier" and loves his situation here.

7. His mentor is Michael Irvin and Irvin has been in his ear about the destructive behavior.

That will work for starters. BTW, I defend him in this way and acknowledge openly that I am not his biggest fan. I admire his play on the field and always have. His attitude has always rubbed me the wrong way. I see evidence of a guy who is changing and keeping promises.

Oh and :welcome: Don't forget our conversation via e-mail.

Great, great post Hos. I feel the same way. Are you reading my mind ? If so I need to put my aluminum foil hat back on !

He got the work ethic and emphasis on conditioning from Rice, that is certain.

Ahhh...my bad...should have noticed the post count. Had he stopped by three months ago he would have had all the answers he could stand.

Why do u guys think he is suddenly goin to change for the cowboys?
He called his Qb gay, he called his other Qb stupid and a choker, he asked for a new contract when he was coming off an injury, and now both of those teams cannot seem to find any big players.
Y would he not do this to the boys?

Hello young fan. First, I'd like to commend you for the insight, At such an early age, to make such a brash statement.

Your question is full of assumptions that the posters automatically assume that Mr. Terrell Eldorado Owens will change. Well ...he actually already has changed. And he will probably keep on changing, But not necessarily for the good. Everyone assumes that he will walk a tight rope, that he's walking On thin ice. Perhaps he is! But TO changes with the wind. He may be Mr. wonderful right now, and he may prove otherwise later. But there's one thing he is going to be ...and that's a threat to any defensive team.

For everything he's ever been accused of doing while at the Eagles, up until the time that Roy Williams horse-collared him, he was scoring touchdowns.
I guess I'm saying ...sometimes it's a trade-off.

Be careful not to throw out the baby with the bath water.

It amazes me how people can ridicule other people for looking at TOs past history and concluding that he will be trouble. This poster goes so far as to call them idiots. I just don't understand it. If TO were playing for any other team on the face of the earth, pretty much all would be in agreement with that approach and any team who signed him would be free game. Now, people who take a wait and see approach are idiots. It's astounding.

It amazes me how people can walk around, like they never did one ounce
of wrong in their life, when their closet is full of skeletons just waiting to
be let out, the bible calls them secret sins, and the all mighty knows all
of ours sins..both confessed and unconfessed

so he who is with out sin cast the first stone?

I don't think he meant "idiots" for not agreeing with the signing. Looks like he meant "idiots" praying for him to fail. That is idiotic as it is wishing for a player's failure that ultimately isn't in our best interest and will cost the team wins.

Perhaps. I don't see a lot of posters hoping for him to fail myself. I see a lot of posters saying that it doesn't matter what he did, he's a good player for us and he's going to help us win. I see a lot of posters saying I hope he can prove to be a positive influence and produce and if he does that, then perhaps he can be accepted. I see a lot of posters saying I want him to catch 100 balls, score 20 TDs, go for a 1000 and help win some games but I'll never be a fan. I don't see many hoping he completely impodes and brings down the team while he's at it. Is that a fear? Absolutly it is for many. However, that's a lot different then hoping it happens.

To late, you've already pitched the first rock by calling whomever idiot. Best you try and make sure you don't get your own tail feathers singed. That's kinda what my original post was all about.

Again, I am sure the poster can speak for himself, but his use of the word "idiots" was followed by the specifics of wishing failure. Those people are idiots. Just going off what he said.

I agree, they would be idiots. I guess I just don't see them posting on this board. Perhaps I'm nieve. The fact that the poster indicates that now you have idiots doing this is inaccurate IMO. It is a means to and end. It is a shot and anybody who is not willing to just go with the signing without reservation. I could be wrong and if I am, then I would appoligize but I don't believe I'm wrong. Who are these posters who are hoping that TO fails misserably and the team along with him. After all, that is what would happen if TO turned out to be a bust. I guess I just don't see it.

I beg to differ. He is not the biggest disease in the US. He is simply a person with a huge ego. Lets not compare him to serious things like cancer, or heart disease.

C;mon. We have Cowboy fans opting to compare negotiating with TO to allowing Bin Laden to take over the United States.

Surely we can allow our young Commander friend to compare him to a disease, no?

There are more than a few who want him to basically fail. And by that occurence, the team fails. There are several who would crow day and night if he failed.

How about comments like this:

I hope he never plays a down in a Cowboys uniform and I also hope Jerry Jones has to eat his entire cap hit and gets nothing for it.

There were also some hoping his plane to Dallas would crash when we were signing him.

Moreover, even those that appear resigned to the fact he is now a Cowboy will probably be the first to pop out if he does crash and burn screaming they told everyone so.

It's more about being "right" and "calling it" than it is about the sake of the football team sometimes.

No

Why do u guys think he is suddenly goin to change for the cowboys?

Not so much change as it is having what he wanted from Philly (money) satisfied in a large contract from Dallas. Money was his problem in Philly that will not be an issue here.

He called his Qb gay,

Actually he never said Garcia was gay, he may have implied it yes, but he also came out the next day and said Jeff had a girlfriend and was not gay etc etc.

he called his other Qb stupid and a choker,

You have a link to where he called Mcnabb "stupid" or a "choker"

he asked for a new contract when he was coming off an injury,

He signed a bad deal with the Eagles everyone knew this, his original request was NOT a new contract but to have the roster bonus from 2006 converted into a signing bonus in 2005 therefore eliminating the possibility that he would be cut prior to the 2006 season.

and now both of those teams cannot seem to find any big players.

Trying to figure out how this is Owens fault

Hey, Kid your only 14, you still have time to save yourself a lifetime of Misery and switch over to the Cowboys!, Cmon you know you like that Star on the Helmet!.

How is working with Jerry Rice a detriment to TO? I don't get the point you are trying to make.

TO's mentor since the blowup in Philly has been Mike Irvin. On ESPN Mike said he's told TO he was wrong to bust on his QB.

I'm not a huge fan of the man, but I'm going to give him a fair chance. So far, everything I've seen outside of the Dallas media agenda has been positive.

I even heard from one source (who will remain nameless) that Parcells is giddy about having a weapon like this.
