Philly couldn't get nuthin' for Corey Simon last year but we are going to get high first day picks for Ellis and Glover -- maybe multiple picks?

Let's stop living in fantasy land. I like both of these guys but at their ages, come on.

Simon wasn't locked up. Ellis and Glover have lenghty existing contracts. Why trade for a guy you still have to give a signing bonus for. Ellis and Gover would come extremely cheap. Teams would get great quality players with years still left in them. I remeber alot of Cowboy fans were riding Darren Howard's jock and wanted to give up a 2nd for him, and he wasn't even locked up like our guys. Ellis and Glover are way better than Darren Howard.

Lookit. The fan in me wants to be totally wrong about this. However, the logical person in me knows we aren't getting much for these guys.

Better to come to terms with that now instead of having a 20 page thread in a few months titled "how did we get NOTHING for Ellis and Glover?"

You don't think Kansas City would give us their 3rd and 4th for both guys? We may not get a 1st or 2nd, but I think we will still get something. Both guys to Kansas would single handidly solve their defensive woes. Not trying to argue with you just asking for your opinion.

No, I think KC would want to wait until we cut them.

And KC has more D problems than a couple of older DL guys are going to fix

Moss got a second round pick

Great point. Except it's false. Minnesota received Oakland's 1st rounder (7th overall) plus former 1st round pick LB Napoleon Harris plus a late pick in this coming draft.

Perhaps you were thinking of TO who was originally traded to Baltimore for a 2nd but then went to Philly for a 5th round pick and DE Brandon Whiting.

I agree with your basic point however. Teams are reluctant to trade high draft picks for older players. Older players are cap eaters and tend to be injury prone. I do think both Ellis and Glover would generate third round picks in return from somebody though because competant DT's and DE's are in great demand.

The point is, just releasing them for the cap space alone does not necessarily help us if it not used wisely. If we can get any kind of reasonable pick or player for either one of them, then it needs to be considered strongly.

In another thread someone suggested a deal with the Lions Edwards for Ellis. That is the kind of deal that might make sense for both teams.

i bet the Jaguars would give us a first for Ellis, that would give them a pretty sick D-line to get after peyton a little better. That would be around 22-24

You are correct, I got them confused.

I have seen you make some very good posts, but this post came off a bit strong to me. Lets look at this objectively for a minute. Your "Seattle couldn't get a second for Alexander" statement is very deceiving. Alexander, talent wise is worth a FIRST ROUND PICK. The trouble is he is looking for a huge payday. Ellis is not near the player Alexander is and I will readily concede that. On the other hand Ellis is signed to a longer term, cap friendly deal that might make him quite attractive to a team who needs his services. He was initially a first rounder and will play better than a young second rounder. I just dont think you can view these things in a vacuum. In my book Ellis isnt nearly as good a player as Glover, but his contract might make him more valuable to a potential trade partner.

Bottom line is a player is worth whatever you can get for him. No more no less. The QB that the Eagles traded to Miami wasn't worth a second rounder but Miami gave it up to get him. Stranger things have happened.

It's a build up of countless let's trade so and so for this posts.

The trouble is everyone looks at it from a homer's view without taking into account the actual situation.

We see it all the time.

Let's trade up in the to the #1 spot in the draft with Coakley and a 3rd round pick.

Let's trade a 32 year old DT that does not fit our defense and has a big salary for a first round pick, it's the Madden mentality and it's silly.

We'd be lucky to get a 4th round pick for either of them, because teams know they do not fit into our plans.

We might get a 3rd for Ellis - he would have value to a 4-3 team.

We resign Glover to redone deal and keep him. We'd get a day 2 pick at best for him. I believe there are roster bonus $ that may force our hands pre draft?
