What Player Loss From 2008 Are You Saddest About?

I'll miss Canty the most. Good soldier. Never missed a game. Great interview also. Very solid role player that every team needs.

If he lines at DT for the Giants, it's going to be tough for Romo to see over him...that dude is huge!

Sad wouldn't be the term I would use but from a production standpoint I'd say Owens. Between the lines I'm not sure if we have another threat as dangerous as #81 was at the WR position. That being said, he did seem to have a drop off (for whatever reason) at the midpoint of the season and maybe he's beginning to lose some of his explosiveness.

Emotionally, Roy Williams would get my nod. Just because of his being an original 'Boy and some of the success he enjoyed early in his career. I never thought at this point and time that he wouldn't be in Dallas as a cornerstone of the defense...

I am going to miss Roy Williams. The NFL went and changed on him and caused his skillset to be less effective. You could always tell that Roy loved being a Cowboy and wore the star proudly. His first few years in the league were approaching legendary status. I feel later that he was exploited by teams, but I don't think he is as bad as the lazy, Cowboy hating agenda media would have you think. I think a good coach can find ways to maximize his tools. I wish him luck...

Here is the list of the dearly departed.

Terrell Owens
Greg Ellis
Roy Williams
Keith Davis
Chris Canty
Tank Johnson
Pacman Jones
Zach Thomas
Brad Johnson
Brooks Bollinger
Joe Berger
Kevin Burnett
Anthony Henry
Carlos Polk

For myself I am tempted to say Zach Thomas simply because of the immense respect I have always had for him. I am also tempted to say Roy Williams because of how great he once was and the wish he was a lifetime Cowboy. However, I am going to say Kevin Burnett because of what he meant to our pass coverage from the LB position.

I don't know if i'll say that i'm 'sad' about anyone of these players leaving. But, i did enjoy watching Keith Davis on special teams, I hope his leadership and intensity can be replaced and even upgraded this year.

Chris Canty was my pet cat when we drafted him and he was decent for us but he didn't live up to my expectation for him. I'm dissappointed that he didn't breakout in Dallas like i wanted him to, I hope he doesn't in NY.

My vote goes to Roy Williams. Yes, he was terrible in coverage, and his play seemingly diminished ever since he "found God"--but he was a Cowboy original, gave us some amazing moments, and was a top player in the league at his position for a few years.

I will never forget some of the bone crushing hits he delivered, and I won't ever forget that interception return for a TD on MNF against the Eagles, even if the ball was thrown right to him.

While thankful he's gone, I'm also thankful what he brought to the Cowboys. He was one of the only bright spots during the Campo era. I just really wish I knew what on earth happened to him..

Bingo. You nailed it.

I was upset to see Roy Williams go, but it was more of a remorse about how his skills have taken a nose dive over the years - I really thought we had a franchise safety in him that would stay with the team for a while, especially with all of his community work.

Out of that list, I'm not really sad to see too many go at all, to be honest. I guess Kevin Burnett, since we had known depth at LB with him here rather than unknown talent in rookies, but the team is so much better off now than a year ago, in my opinion, that the departed are negligible.

From strictly a talent standpoint, Owens.

But factoring in age and cap, I understand the decision to let Owens go and do not lament it.

But if we factor in age and salary in addition to talent.... probably Burnett.

We have Bradie James as a legit starter at ILB. Then we have Brooking. Heh. And then a rookie in Jason Williams. And Carpenbust.

And from now on, I will refer to him as such.

The decision to let Burnett walk and still keep Carpenbust astonishes me.

Hos - maybe the next thread should be who are you most sad is STILL on the roster?

Our potential 1st, 3rd, and 6th round picks.

Good point.

I didn't see anyone on Hos' list that I will miss. Zach Thomas was a favorite, but he seemed to struggle, especially late in the season.

I was sorry to see both Canty and Burnett go. Both very solid players that got squeezed out by the almighty dollar.

Canty - I really think he is a player who can be something very special.

Ironically, he's likely to do more damage in a 4-3 that allows him to be a bit more aggressive. I say ironically, b/c he had a pretty outstanding set of 3-4 coaches from college through the pros.

I would not consider myself a TO guy but I'd have to say him. I feel we will be a much better overall team without the drama but man could that guy play WR.

Am I then only one who was disappointed by Owens' on the field play since he got here?

I expected old take over the game Owens and I rarely saw that guy, his last season here was a really disappointing one for me.

I just never thought he lived up to expectations, he was good not great, heck I always thought Healthy Terry Glenn was a much better player...

The loss of A-Henry ,G.E, & #31/38, u will be missed as much as the all white fitted cowboy cap the three of you signed for me last year in training camp!!!! I had held on to that hat for years and years only to get one season out if it, let it sit on the shelf for all eternity....................................

Keith Davis.

I can't much reason to be sad about the rest of the departed. Carlos Polk had that awesome blocked punt though.
