What position can a rookie make a Martin like impact next year?

I think Denzel Perryman could come in and start at MLB. Move Lee over. Wouldn't be the All Pro Martin was, but would be very solid.

Between he and Duke Johnson I would be ecstatic if we walked out of this draft with atleast one Hurricane

Talent can make an impact no matter what position. I doubt many felt a Guard would make this much of an impact yet he did. I just hope the player we get who can make an impact is on the defensive side of the ball.
Well said.

The Cowboys OL was good in 2013, especially the 2nd half of the season. It was debatable in training camp if Leary or Bern would be the starter in 2014 which indicates that Bern was doing well.

In the draft just get the most talented players possible.

If your talking about a rookie All Pro, its Gordon or Gurley if his knee is solid

DT . It's unrealistic too think a DE is gonna come in and dominate in his first year. It rarely happens.

Or yes Melvin Gordon .

We've seen quite a few RBs have huge impacts as rookies and to be honest, had Odell Beckum been healthy all year, he may have been a 2nd team all pro.

If he had been healthy all year he would have been the leading WR in the NFL and 1st team All-Pro.

Thanks.
I wouldn't want to bump Dez out, but don't ODB's numbers project to be better than Dez's had ODB played a full season?

Julius thomas projected to be an all time scorer through 10 weeks...he completely disappeared. I make no assumptions about things like that, especially with players just out of the college schedule. Thomas is a partial season player every year because he seemingly cant hold up.

the only positions I could potentially see having a huge impact like Mr Martin are DT or DE, and possibly RT, although I can't imagine drafting a RT early (top pick or two)...Martin was the exception to the rule, not just for Dallas, but for OL everywhere

Whatever the front office does in the draft is OK by me... Wait what? Did I just say that ...? Yup. Look at what we've done in recent drafts. I trust 'em. They'll get it right.

Probably DT. You're not going to find a DE who can have a similar year. What Martin did was historic. Quite possibly the best rookie year in the history of this team.

A DE that can produce 8-12 sacks his first year would be huge and a DT that can stuff the run and get 3-6 sacks would be a major upgrade...

Where they're draft the chances aren't good. Part of me wants to throw out Rollins as another possible one. I don't think he gets to that level of production based on his experience at CB, but the fact that he's got what appears to be a lot of physical talent and should slide some because of experience makes him someone who could be a potential serious difference maker if he matures faster then expected. But the safest one to say would have a Martin like impact is probably Gurley if healthy.

I'll go with lber.

Get a strong side guy to play next to hitchens and think we can finally get some stability at more than one spot in that group.

8-12 is A LOT for a rookie DE. If you get a rookie DE that gives you 10 sacks, that'd be a much bigger impact than even Martin had this year.

Looking at our Free agents and my Chrystal ball.. I think none on offense... Parnell or Free will be here.. WR is Set. TE is set.. RB will be Murray or some other Free agent.. The line is set... On defense... FS I can see. Wilcox and Church are the same Player..LB is a mash unit but a rookie won't unseat Lee and Hitchens. Durant, Mc and Carter are free agents. But I think at least one will be back.. That leaves DE and DT. The only keepers are Crawford and Lawrence... The rest are Just rotational guys.... Guess I'm saying. I'd like the following positions addressed rounds 1-4.. FS, DT, DE and More DE.

Those are definitely the highest priority positions IMO, though I would add a solid right tackle prospect because Parnell looks like a back-up and the team might not keep both him and Free. This tackle needs to be able to play right or left as well. Unless of course they think Weems is the guy (i'm not feeling it). They can count on Martin being the backup RT but we all know the usual outcome when teams start juggling the positions, instead of one compromised position you end up with two or more.

Rookies just don't make a Martin – like impact in the NFL You're talking about a Randy Moss kind of player. We see them about once every 10 years.

I think the player that can have the biggest impact is already on the team, and I think we caught a glimpse of it during the two playoff games. I think that player is the Demarcus Lawrence. For all intents and purposes, at least from the standpoint of experience, he will still be a rookie next season. Does that count?

Chances are probably less than 5% you draft a player in the 20s who is selected to the All-Pro team as a rookie. I'd be happy with a guy good enough to start immediately while continuing to improve over the season. Add that to Crawford, Lawrence and a FA acquisition, we may have something.
