What position would you be most upset that we drafted in 1st round of upcoming draft?

Smith is 31 and can't be relyed on to stay healthy. Martin is the same age.

If someone like Green, Linderbaum or Raimann falls to us we should take them

If it's not an O-Linemen we should pick a front 7 defense player this 1st round
Green would be great at Left Guard. Too bad he will go in the top 12. Cowboys don't pick until the 24th pick.

Linderbaum? Forget him. He's a Center. We just used a 4th round pick (Biadasz) in 2020 and a 7th round pick (Farniok) in 2021 on Center. Farniok looks better than Biadasz, so we should be ok at Center.

Raimann is an ex-TE who got moved to O-Tackle in 2020. He's fairly new to the position (Left Tackle) but he has shown he can play the position. The only problem is Tyron Smith will play Left Tackle once again in 2022, plus Terence Steele can play both Tackle spots. Plus, rookie Josh Ball (4th round) has a lot of potential similar to Tyron Smith playing at Left Tackle.

Josh Ball

This is all why I say we don't need to be wasting a costly 1st round pick on any Olineman when we have other positions (NT, LB, S) of more need at this time. Hopefully a 3rd or 4th round pick gets used on a Left Guard, but not a 1st rounder because of where the Cowboys are picking and who will be available a few rounds later.

If I were the Cowboys, I would use that 24th overall (1st round) pick on either big Arkansas DT/NT John Ridgeway (6'5", 320 lbs, 5.01 40 yd time)...or if he's gone...get multi-positional super talented Penn State LB Brandon Smith (6'3", 240 lbs, 4.40 40 time).

You’re new to this draft thing aren’t you?

Self explanatory. I don’t think I would upset at us taking any regular position in the draft (excluding kicker, punter, long snapper) in the first round.

Do any of you feel differently?

I can be talked into WR. Anything but TE.

Much better than you. Guaranteed. The players I have hoped and were available for the Cowboys to pick in Rounds 1 & 2 the past 5 years have all turned out to be stud difference makers. Jerry should give me a call.

A first round S would be great. I've had lots of seasons where I would have loved that. A credible single high FS can transform a defense.

Yeah. Not another high round WR. We've spent too much draft capital on WR as it is.

LB is only needed in later rounds. I'd be upset if we spent a top pick on lb unless it's a Parsons clone. And such a guy won't be there when we pick.

We need to temper expectations. We've got a late pick. He's not going to transform either side of the ball.
Which is why OL is probably a safe pick at our draft position in the 1st.

WR.I am even ok if they draft a QB if they really like a player but a WR will piss me off.

This team would be most helped by a QB upgrade but since it is a poor QB draft, pick needs to be front seven on defense or front five on offense. Thats were games are won and where this team isnt good enough.

RB, too short of life span
WR , you already have Coop and CD
CB, you have Diggs and your 2nd round pick last year Joseph
Of course no 1st round ST

But other than these positions, just give me a dynamic player that is All-Pro caliber at any of the other positions in the first. BPA

trade back with the right partner and you could get both in the second round.

The only way to even risk trading back would have to be with one of the top 3 teams drafting first in the 2nd round. That's between a 9 - 11 spot jump back, but at least you would have a very early 2nd round pick and the original late 2nd round pick. Then we would have to pray both players are available when we do pick both times during the 2nd round...which is highly unlikely. Both are too good to last past the top 10 picks of the 2nd round. HUGE GAMBLE. I don't know if it would be worth it.

The better deal would be if we could find a late 1st round team, or very early 2nd, who would be willing to trade for WR Amari Cooper. That's a much safer way to approach this.
