What to expect (differently) from Cassel?

I think Cassel can't help but do a better job than Weeden. I think he is a smart QB who will use that to his advantage. At least I think he will try to win the game rather than not lose it like Weeden did.

You talking about the same guy who couldn't beat out Tyrod Taylor and EJ Manuel? Have you watched any football this year?

I expect him to go through his progressions and actually throw to one of them that is open in that small window of opportunity that is required of an NFL QB.

More pocket awareness. The ability to throw an out route. We'll be dinking and dunking quite a bit, simply because the Giants scheme allows a ton of underneath stuff. I also expect him to be able to hit Witten down the seam.

The defense will be better simly because Hardy and McClain are on the field.

I cannot figure why we don't get Escobar more involved, he should be able to run wild.

I don't think it's because he had to beat them out, I think it's more Buffalo is trying to find it's new young franchise QB.

Thing is TOP was about even in the saints game. I think offense needs to do better in converting 3rd down than we have been and maybe with Cassel they will I don't know. However my big concern has been defense. We are not getting the turnovers and have played poorly in stopping 3rd downs.

Correct, the Saints game was relatively even with reference to TOP and could have went either way because of it, we just failed to finish.

TOP is meaningless if you fail to convert 3rd downs and score points like the NE game.

Teams with elite attacks can lose TOP and destroy you regardless (see the NE game) because they score points so efficiently.

Where TOP mattered most for the Cowboys, especially last year, was with reference to a ball control offense that also scored points.

They averaged 40 minutes per game on offense to 20 minutes on defense, they typically lost when they lost TOP.

This ratio assisted a poor defense by not exposing them for long periods and kept the other teams offense off the field for most of the game, it was a winning recipe.

Our first two wins with Romo this year also had the same ratio of 40:20 even though we turned the ball over in New York multiple times.

Once the defense is at full strength this upcoming week, it could change the recipe of winning if the offense can actually score points and watch out when Romo and Dez are full go!

Now why did you have to take a dump in our rose-colored salad? Get that realism out of here. We need a week of hope where past performance does not dictate future results.

Can't we all be happy that Wedone is gone and just hope for the best?

Thing is in Alt game and NO game they did score points and defense let us down. I don't expect the offense to click like a well oiled machine when your starting QB and top WR are out like most teams you have to lean on the defense and Dallas couldn't do that. I think even with Cassel the offense is not going to be running smooth and defense will or I should say must pick up the slack.

Yes I watched football. Cassel has played in this league for 11 years and was a starter who did fairly well. I live in the Buffalo area and they are kicking themselves for getting rid of Cassel and keeping Manuel. Now that Tyrod went down how is that turning out for them? At least Cassel has done it before. Weedon has never done it. At least Cassel has won some games in this league, something Weedon has never done. So I guess instead of having an opinion I should just ask "Eddie the Football Guru". Dont slam my opinion just because it's not yours.

I don't see Dez playing, but hopefully Gregory will be able to create more mismatches. Cassel can be more productive than Weeden.

Guessing you haven't watched much considering Taylor would likely be a pro bowler if the season ended right now.

Cassel will be different because Cassel has nothing to lose and if he plays well, he will get some money next season. This was a guy that beat out Bridgewater and then got hurt but couldn't beat out Taylor. He won't being playing scared because he is playing for a backup spot or potentially a starting position somewhere in the NFL.

Weeden to me was playing too cautious because he is a FA after the season. He was just there to make his stats look good.

Sturm has a nice breakdown on it...Cassel is a completely diferent QB than Weeden. He is more of a risk taker, and that can be good at times and it can be bad at times. His arm is very average but he can make some accurate throws. He will stay in and take a shot, unlike Weeden, who lost me when he just dropped to the ground in the face of pressure on several occasions.

Movement in the pocket and the willingness to throw over zone coverage and better timing on throws. Weeden was a statue. If you watch some of his sacks and pressures his feet literally do not move, when all he had to do was take a little hop forward to avoid the pressure and get a good throw off. He also appears to be a fastball thrower with a football. He wants a clear line of sight that he can laser the ball to. He was totally unwilling to try to throw into soft spots in zone coverage if that lane was not there. He was also predetermining his throws and not even watching the play develop, which was the scariest, most depressing part to watch. If he didn't decide before the snap to throw to you, it didn't matter how open you were. These are not things that can be corrected at this point in his career IMO. Cassel will make some mistakes, but at least he appears to do so within the offense as it was designed and can extend some plays with his mobility.

I agree in the NO game but they only scored points for the first half in the Atlanta game, if they had scored points in the second half then the outcome could have been different.

Before the defense could not carry the team, with everyone back save Scandrick, we have to hope they can make a difference.

I get the injuries on defense but when an offense minus the franchise QB and the franchise WR are out and a backup is in and they put up 28 points be it in 1 half alone or for the game I still expect the defense to prevent the other team from scoring more. Even with Cassel we are not going to win a lot of shoot outs, we must play solid defense and keep games in reach. If people are expecting putting up 40 points which we would have had to vs Alt we are not going to win.

I expect better play but more turnovers. QB is a very difficult position to jump right in and play well, especially when chemistry between receivers is so important. It can take months, if not years for some players. So with a lot of moving parts at receiver, I expect some mistakes, miscommunication and poor throws. I just hope he also makes more big positive plays.

It would really help if we get a semblance of a running game and if our defense helps to gives us short fields with some turnovers and not make us score 30 plus to win each game.

IF (and that's a big if) Dez is back to face the Giants...I mean we don't want to rush him back or anything...but if he can play, and we do give Christine Michaels the starting position...what do you, personally, foresee or expect differently from the previous Weeden-Randle-T-will led show?

I believe we will be much more respectable, formidable, even. I also have a feeling that the Defense is going to start creating some more takeaways...just a hunch with all that pressure they will be bringing. I just hope our safeties aren't a huge liability.

He's taller. It will take him longer to fall down...
