I'm just excited that Cassel has the awareness to step up in the pocket when there's backside pressure. That's QB 101 level stuff that Weedon failed to grasp.
I get the injuries on defense but when an offense minus the franchise QB and the franchise WR are out and a backup is in and they put up 28 points be it in 1 half alone or for the game I still expect the defense to prevent the other team from scoring more. Even with Cassel we are not going to win a lot of shoot outs, we must play solid defense and keep games in reach. If people are expecting putting up 40 points which we would have had to vs Alt we are not going to win.

Problem with that understanding is that although the franchise QB and WR were indeed absent, so were the elite pass rushers in Hardy and Gregory including the run force in Rolando.
The defense certainly was not good enough without them and thus could not carry the team.
In addition, normally 28 points from your back up is enough to win but not against an elite WR and solid QB with a running game for 4 quarters.
The defense played well in the first half, 10 points were specifically on Garrett for not killing the clock (3) and Weeden for the stupid pick, they gave up 7 on their own.
Further, notice how the offense in the entire second half only gained 50 some yards of offense and zero scores, the defense was not good enough to overcome this fact and it showed not only by TOP but also in the being exposed.
If you put together some scoring drives in the second half, the defense has a better chance.
IF (and that's a big if) Dez is back to face the Giants...I mean we don't want to rush him back or anything...but if he can play, and we do give Christine Michaels the starting position...what do you, personally, foresee or expect differently from the previous Weeden-Randle-T-will led show?
I believe we will be much more respectable, formidable, even. I also have a feeling that the Defense is going to start creating some more takeaways...just a hunch with all that pressure they will be bringing. I just hope our safeties aren't a huge liability.
I'm not saying defense did not have issues what I am saying is 2 of the top franchise players are on offense and they are Romo and Dez they are the best and highest paid players and much harder to replace. People are placing expectation on a backup QB that are unrealistic, the fact a backup could help lead the offense to 28 point in one game and 20 in the other to reach OT is more than I could ask for at some point the defense has to make plays, they have to do things to get themselves off the field and not rely on offense. Part of the TOP is on defense to make plays and get off the field not just allow the opposing team to march down the field
We simply disagree, Hardy, Gregory and Rolando are also impact players, so that excuse cuts in both directions, they are not good enough without their horses on both sides.
Further, there is no excuse even for a back up to score zero points in an entire 30 minutes of play, that is unacceptable regardless of what happened in one half of football.
In the first half TOP was won while scoring points and they were winning, the second half TOP was lost while scoring zero points and they lost.
I honestly have no idea what to expect. But I agree with you in regards to defensive pressure. The Giants didn't know what to do with Randall Gregory and now they'll also have to account for Hardy and McClain. That could very well be the difference in the game for the Cowboys.
I'm not saying those guys are not important. I will say you take any team in the NFL and take away their QB that team will lean on defense to pick up the load. For Dallas you are right we suffered key injuries on DL. Does not change the fact that is you put up 28 fricken points you should be able to win a game.
