What was the point in winning our last game?

The logic was you play to win games not to improve your draft position. It was important to the organization to have a winning season. Dak needed to play and play well. Philly did play some of their starters early in the game and it was important for us to enter the offseason feeling at least a little better about ourselves. It’s important to instill winning in your football team. 9-7 looks and feels a lot better than 8-8. We’ve had enough 8-8 seasons under Garrett. You don’t feel like you’re that far away from being a good football team at 9-7. We did the right thing by going out and winning that game.
If winning 9 games instead of 8 truly means that much to this franchise, then we are even more screwed than anyone thinks.

If your team is just playing out the schedule with the intention of losing games to improve its draft position you’re screwed. Winning nine games meant a winning season and a winning season feels a lot better than a losing season or a 500 season. Losing to Philly’s scrubs would have been a lousy way to end the season. It would have made for an even longer offseason knowing we couldn’t even beat their backups. They didn’t mail it in against us in 2016 when they were sitting home for the playoffs.

It's fine for a fan to feel this way. It's on the coaches to take care of business.

The coaches job is to win games. When Jimmy came to Dallas he wanted to win preseason games because he felt it was important to instill winning in the team. It’s ridiculous to go out and kiss off regular season games to try and improve your draft position. That’s not what the regular season is about.
