What will it take to bench Free?

He was a turnstile yesterday in pass pro. JPP beat him inside over and over again. And like the whole OL, was poor in the run game. What will it take to bench him? Another poor showing at WAS? Another injured QB (Free's man was the guy who hurt Romo, although not entirely Free's fault)? At this point, I would not mind going to a rotation between Free & Chaz Green (like we did with Free and Parnell for a while). Maybe that would keep them both fresh. Or get really aggressive and move Collins to RT and start Leary. Something has to change though. Thoughts?

With a 3rd round investment in Green I'd have to imagine they would look to play him at some point.

They finally started shifting protection to his side and you saw Martin's set up going rt to double JPP. But it took quite a few plays to make that adjustment in pass protection cuz JPP was beating him routinely throughout the game. I was even calling it out before it happened. And Vernon was a problem as well but mostly blowing up run plays. It was clear the Giants were pinching inside a lot to prevent run from beating them and we didn't adjust at all to that tactic in the run game and didn't adjust to Free's helplessness until well into the 4th quarter.

Free getting injured.
Pretty much. And that would only be a temporary situation until a true replacement is acquired. Maybe that's Green but he must elevate his game to Free's level and he's not there yet. Rotating Free and Green is doable but I wouldn't consider that as an option until Green has improved more.

I think Collins to right tackle is a stop gap option. Putting Leary back into the starting rotation is sound but has potential drawbacks. In my opinion, his name is hitting the injury list more often than in seasons' past. I wouldn't like seeing a hole develop at left guard needing a fix that's already fixed.

I think the Green rotation is coming. Personally I prefer seeing what Collins is capable of doing at RT and returning Leary back to the starting group but that's just me.

Might be an overreaction like most people do with Free.

The problem is when he gets beat, he gets beat bad.

But fact of the matter is he held up about 90% of the snaps yesterday.

I know it's easy to look at Tyron and think what he does is normal, but it's not.

It is a mistake to look at the only "weak" spot and overreact.

Someone else to remain Injury free and take the job from him.

Seems like when they bring someone in to compete for the job, they wind up getting injured and Free wins the job.

I present the 1st half vs Sea hawks ps game as a rebuttal. ...Green is 2x the player Free is currently and 10x better pass protection

Not sure Chaz Green would be any better from what I saw in preseason.....

Broaddus seems to think he still has a foot issue or just that his past ankle/foot problems have caught up to him. Mentioned it a couple of times. He might be right.

Just rewatching the highlights of every Dak play, Giants were in his face the entire second half when we went to Air Coryell offense.

Please forgive my reply for it's total lack of conversational substance but... my mind has locked up on the phrase, "Preseason game as a rebuttal."

Doug Free gets so much unwarranted criticism every week, that when he actually does struggle significantly everybody acts like it's an 'I told you so' when it's really not. That said, he really struggled with his matchup this week. If we have a better OT on the roster, I'm all for giving him the snaps in practice and a shot at that job. I don't think we have that guy ready yet, but I'd look at it, anyway.
