What would get you optimistic for next season?

Mike Vrabel or Brian Flores for head coach. Both no non sense guys but Jerry would be way too afraid of them so it will never happen.
Start there and let them run this team.
If something like this happens then they have my attention again.
It’s a pipe dream though.

Hmm. Maybe if Elon Musk makes Jerry an offer he can't refuse, and thereafter starts employing some "efficiency" strategies?

Unfortunately, "optimism" isn't a reasonable expectation for next season. Optimism might be warranted if they make fundamental changes in the next two seasons. But I won't be holding my breath.

For me to really get excited about the Cowboys' prospects for 2025 it would take for Jerry to hire a GM who actually gets involved with the draft, the contracts of his players, acts to get the most out of veteran free agency and shows due respect for his head coaches, minus interference.

These are just a few things that a legitimate head coach should be actively involved with. Any GM who claims ignorance of his team's business isn't worthy of owning the title of GM. A legitimate NFL owner should be satisfied being the owner, without falsely pretending to be more. He should never make his business a family affair. It's a flawed setup that renders a business less accountable.

You tell me what it would take for you to be excited for the prospects of the 2025 season.

Jerry and Stephen aren't going anywhere. The way this team is structured isn't changing. So I'm asking within this structure, what can the team do this offseason to get you legitimately excited for next season?

If it's coaches, name them. Players in the draft or free agency, name them.

Or maybe there is nothing they can do as long as the leadership doesn't change. Let me know that too.

You have the floor. What do you want the Jerry and Stephen led Cowboys to do?
Drafting a QB in the top 12
Drafting an OL in the Second Round
Drafting an OL in the Third Round
Mingo in the Fourth Round

IN FA:
A durable RB in the mode of a Mixon or Henry.
Then, and only then, football men, would I get me optimistic for the future.
Sadly, drunk sailors, there are no 1-year fixes for 2025.

Jerry having a stroke and the family employs a GM who knows what he’s doing.
Otherwise, we will win between 6-10 games and either have a first round exit in the playoffs, or miss them altogether.

A rebuild needs to happen. These core group of players just aren't going to get it done.

Martin - retire
Micah - put him on the block, see what you can get
Diggs - he's done. Cut him and take that $12 million hit
Dak - negotiate with him and find a team willing to take him, and yes there will be a team he's willing to go to and one willing to take him

Only one of those things will happen. So I'm not optimistic about much of anything.

Fourth and 1 three and change left in the game and you punt the ball back to Wash . I knew the defense would not hold up . What would get me excited is a whole new coaching staff

After a powerful performance on landman Jerry decides to pursue his acting career on that show and hires a general manager to run the team.
The new general manager hires the absolute best coaching staff that money can buy.
He also gets rid of all the dead weight Martin tank trades mica for three number one draft picks along with sending DAk and his contract to another team.

We rebuild the team with all our number one picks concentrating on the trenches and a new Young quarterback.

That would be a start anyway

I'm taking a different view to many.....based on the sad fact that we arent getting deep in the play-offs in 2025.

If we accept that we arent winning, we can concentrate on improving, where it matters: O-Line, D-Line and a running game which will augment our passing game. Allow the new HC formulate his game around a solid base (and without the pressure to succeed in year1). It also allows us to evaluate whether it's possible for him to get a system that best suits Dak....or whether he's cut-bait in 2026.

Certainly, restructure some of the CAP, but we focus on the lines.....top of list either Stanley or Robinson for LT (move Guyton to RT and Steele to G.....or we trade one of them), unfortunately, there's no FA DT's, so we either trade down in the draft to get Grant (if we are high on him) or we trade for one.

What we cant do is look to star FA's eg Higgins or Goodwin, no team has ever won anything with so many top heavy resources at: QB, WR1, WR2.

There really isn't that much to be excited about. Same front office, same QB, same approach to team building.

If we got a new coach (a good one, not a hasbeen or homegrown talent like Witten), had a great draft (a playmaker at 12, major reinforcements on the DL, plus a good QB prospect to take over when Dak gets injured again), and traded for whatever we didn't address in free agency or the draft, I might be a little more optimistic--but that's different from excited. That's really just table stakes for most NFL teams, and we should be doing that already.

If we did something drastic though, then I'd probably be excited. Let's say--we do all of the above and hire Deion Sanders. That would genuinely be exciting. Not that Deion is the second coming, because he's not, but he is a break from the norm and it would be wildly entertaining as a fan to see Jerry and Deion competing for attn in the media. It would be different than the past 15 years and that would pique my interest as a fan.

Cut Dak , and trade two 2nd round picks to the Vikings for JJ McCarthy. Trade their #1 pick to SF for Kyle Shanahan.
