What would you do about Roy? Trade him?

Have you ever thought that maybe there is no agenda and that posters are just saying what they feel?

You must be new to the board.

You want to see an agenda ...... look at a posters history .... if almost every post is bashing a player even when he has good days ..... they are an agenda troll.

Look here as the most famous recent example.
http://cowboyszone.com/forums/search.php?searchid=340031

This "fan" wanted Henry cut from the team ..... even after he had 4 interceptions.

Most of his ilk get banned after a few weeks ..... If you are not like that, then I apologize .... but they do exist and Roy has his share of them following him around.

peace.

For instance, last Week on the NFL Network, Sterling Sharpe explained how teams scheme to put Roy in coverage, hoping to exploit his weaknesses.

Sharpe also claimed Roy should have "redirected" a wide receiver, apparently forgetting that there's a rule against making contact after 5 yards.

Glad you quoted him since I missed this post ....

the answer to you "funguy" is yes ....... Roy is better than Sanders ..... and gets beat less.

His "fans" just do not attack his every mistake and ignore his every play.

In all fairness I think your safety is better than him as well .... your guys problem is he has never figured out he is not faster than most everyone else like he was in college.

Im guessing you are speaking about Landry considering he is our SS. If so, I don't know of many other strong safetys that run a sub 4.4 forty.

However, if you are speaking about Taylor, I believe he is finally in his natural postition playing centerfield and he is really beginning to play like the player that he was supposed to be when we drafted him evidenced by his play thus far this year.

And before you chide me too harshly, ask yourself this: What if Roy Williams was a Commander or an Eagle? What would you say then?

Great post!

Thats a good way of looking at things. If it was 2002 Roy Williams that was on the Skins or the Eagles, I would be terrified. This new tame 2007 Roy Williams would have me licking my chops in anticipation of the greatest show on turf.

Allow me to preface my comments with this: I've defended Roy Williams tirelessly over the years. On another board, I was in constant debate with another poster who despised Roy Williams. He actually became so agitated with me that he started making terrible comments about my wife.

But I never wavered in my support of Roy and never reciprocated his attacks. I just accepted Roy as a player who excelled in run support but was average in coverage.

However, after last season and the beginning of this season, I'm less certain about my position, and I'm forced to wonder about Roy, "At what point do we call a spade a spade?"

I know what my eyes see on Sundays. They see a player beaten repeatedly in coverage. Of course, my observations are less than meaningless. I don't understand coverages; I can't recognize their idiosyncrasies. And even if I could, I don't have access to game film. What do I know?

However, week in and week out, different analysts--former players normally--go about breaking down game film and telling me just how poor, how much of a liability, Williams is in coverage. For instance, last Week on the NFL Network, Sterling Sharpe explained how teams scheme to put Roy in coverage, hoping to exploit his weaknesses. Should I simply dismiss them as agenda-driven Cowboy haters, or people who are blinded by the negative press surrounding Roy Williams?

Perhaps I should dismiss them, but what do I do about Mickey Spagnola--the biggest Cowboy apologist ever--who spent the offseason castigating Roy for his coverage woes, stating he needed to make substantial improvements.

Please understand I have no agenda against Roy. I want him to succeed. Although I'm a Longhorn fan, I was ecstatic when the Cowboys selected him on draft day. But my confidence in him is wavering.

And before you chide me too harshly, ask yourself this: What if Roy Williams was a Commander or an Eagle? What would you say then?[/QUOTE]

Your last sentence is perfect.......this whole board will be laughing at Roy!

No I was talking about your thug free safety Taylor ..... I would love to have Landry who I said in another thread is the only guy I would trade Roy for.

The only reason I mentioned Taylor is because that is who Roy gets compared with all the time.

dude, you can't handle the simple logic adam is throwing at you. and based on your "style" anything i'd say you'd dismiss out of your own need to see it your own way.

dude, do us all a favor, until you have something - anything factual or relevant to add to the conversation, do us all a favor and stay out of it.

i grew tired of "adults" like you long ago. you want evidence not to understand, but to refute.

Is that when you stopped thinking for yourself and let the adults do it for you?

this "child" doesn't have time for such childish games. but being in on the convo is kinda fun.

Continue to prove my point.

You've got nothing.

I can at least have an honest, informed debate with Adam - even if we see things from polar opposite positions.

You chirp in with some useless comment and nothing else.

Lame.

So are you contending that Sterling Sharpe is a poor analyst and that we should disregard his commentary?

I'm not challenging you. I'm simply trying to understand my own feelings about Roy.

I'd be saying the same things I'm saying now. I don't change the facts or my opinions based on which team a guy plays for, which is why I've defended players such as Shawn Springs, Sheldon Brown and Lito Sheppard when they've deserved to be defended and criticized Cowboys players when they deserve to be criticized.

Hardly.

You've got your opinion, I've got mine.

Reality backs up mine.

The guy is often a liability in coverage.

I know it.

The coaches know it.

And the rest of the NFL knows it.
I'm not spouting my opinion Stash. Your answer for Adam's question was Newman, but then back to Roy.

That is NOT the answer to his question. On a curl underneath, whose assignment is it if Roy has deep on Moss?

like i said, i know any "fact" i could put in you'd dismiss so why bother? you've shown "no" propensity to do a give/take, it's all "i'm right, so bugger off" and when asked questions about routes, you don't answer them, you rage on.

am i serving no purpose in this thread? probably not but then this thread really serves no purpose on it's own then does it?

So, again, I would ask you this: Are the facts of those analysts who criticize Roy Williams in error?

I don't think I have ever seen a member of the media say something bad about the Cowboys without someone here at the Zone tearing them apart for it. Take it for what you will.

Here is where I mentioned Landry.

http://cowboyszone.com/forums/showpost.php?p=1713969&postcount=245

That is the one player that I am jealous as hell the Skins got .... His name alone should make him a Cowboy ;)

To be honest I was upset about the Landry pick up at first because I felt we had other needs that needed to be addressed first; however, he has exceeded all of my expectations and has really allowed Taylor to do what he does best which is play centerfield. My opinion on drafting him has done a complete 180. I guess thats why I'm not paid to make the decisons.

Yeah, what are the odds that one of the 8500+ members would.....

That's natural. And in some cases, analysts do have agendas against certain teams. But in Roy's case, the criticism seems so widespread.

Honestly, I think we (as a fanbase) should learn more about football and realize that Strong Safety isn't a weakness on this team.
