They could draft a 2nd back in the 5th round like Johnson from Texas or the Minnesota back.
I’m a big Johnson fan. I think he’d give us a great “thunder” rye back to pair with TP or whoever we end up with.

I can see him running in the 4.4s which at his size is absurd.

I really like Gibbs but i am completely opposed to drafting a RB in RD 1.

Happy. Gibbs is dangerous as hell, and is very versatile. He and Pollard running game would scare the crap out of defenses.

Remember in the playoff game against San Francisco, when the announcer mentioned that the Niners defense was really worried about Pollard but that was it? Well, defenses wouldn’t be able to relax like they did when Elliott replaced Pollard. They’d have to worry on every snap.

If Pollard got hurt, they’d just get more Gibbs… which would be just as worriesome for the defense.

I know Dallas could get a solid runner in the second or third round, but Gibbs is just better. I think he is enough better than the other backs that I’m fine using a late first on him.

I doubt the team does it though.

It wouldn't surprise me if they did draft Diggs.

I think I’ve gone from disappointed to meh. He is one heck of a receiving back so if I pretend he’s a WR it’s not as bad.

I’d be absolutely shocked though if there isn’t a premium position available that’s I’d rather have.

The deal is that this is a bad year for receivers and Gibbs will help in the passing game as well as running.

I could see the Cowboys taking an electric back like Gibbs to replace Pollard and then signing a cheap vet with some tread remaining on their tires, like Alexander Mattison, for two years 5 mil or something like that.

That would give us a younger, healthier, and cheaper backfield with still some vet experience.
That makes sense to us, but don't see the Cowboys going in that direction. We will be fortunate enough if they release Zeke, but also Pollard don't think that's realistic.

It is but I’d still take 5 WRs ahead of him.

My other problem is he’s never even rushed for 1000 yards in a college season. So he’s not a workhorse and we’d likely be getting a RB in round 1 that’ll split carries.

I'd hate it. Positional value aside, how often does MM throw to his running backs? I know Dak doesn't like to. We'd be reaching for a player and then wasting his best attribute, it's a bust pick from day 1.

Everyone says "he's just like Kamara!", and he is, but Kamara's best years came with a QB who targeted halfbacks relentlessly. Drew Brees got LT to 100 catches in San Diego, then threw like 60 balls a year to Reggie Bush, and when the best receiving back he had was Pierre Thomas, he threw a bunch of passes to Pierre Thomas. Adding Kamara had the Saints cooking with gas, but Brees' demand for a receiving RB had been there for 15 years at that point. Kamara just stepped into a well-established, high volume offensive role. Payton and Brees didn't have to change their offense to shoehorn him in, and they didn't just waste his receiving talent and only give him handoffs.

If we drafted Gibbs, we'd just stick him in the Pollard role and give him 10 handoffs and 2 catches a game. Total waste of his talent.

If you want an RB for this team, I'd go for Bijan or Charbonnet, guys that can be plugged into the Zeke role.

I’ve actually read that in Mikes O in GB he liked RBs that could catch. That being said Dak doesn’t do it enough IMO so agree there.

But it’s an interesting point - if we’re not going to throw him the rock 50+ times a year it is a complete waste.

I’m sure they’re talking about that when considering backs.

I don't hate the player. I'd hate the use of the resource. Get a RB late Day 2 or Day 3. Guys like Zach Charbonnet, Kendre Miller, Kenny McIntosh. Zach Evans and Mohamed Ibrahim will all be options that can provide production beyond the first round.

You make some good points.

Only the Cowboys can answer if they plan on throwing a lot to the backs on the new offense. I know Mike did a lot in Green Bay early on, and that same offense (Holmgren) used Ricky Watters all the time as a pass catcher.

If the team is planning on throwing to the backs more… then Pollard and Gibbs would be perfect for it.

He is good though. Just not in round 1. Gotta clarify before one of these emotional posters catch feelings over their little prospect.
I got ya. I just feel different about drafting a back at 26 than I would at pick 6… or even 16. I do understand that point though, so I never give any **** for someone not wanting RB in round 1.

My feelings can’t be hurt with a baseball bat though… so I’m good no matter what.
