I actually got surprised a few times when they called his name because I completely forgot he played on the team. What the heck? This guy just disappeared and who knows the reason why.

Cooks is not separating. Average separation:

2023: 2.5
2022: 2.9
2021: 3.3
2020: 3.0

2.5 is terrible. Near the bottom of the league. Gallup, of all people, is at 2.6.

When I notice him he always seems covered, I do wonder how much of that is the routes there giving him. There have been a couple exceptions where Dak just completely misses him.

He isn’t the first or second option. I don’t think there are many plays for him where he is the primary.
we know who is the primary - that's Lamb.

But a true legit play caller would know how to best implement a speedy playmaker into the game.
With the way McCarthy is calling the play - Cooks is not even a 3rd or 4th option .. or even 5th option.

And McCarthy already has a lackluster careless mindset with Cooks continuing to be a non-factor.
I can clearly see why he was much criticized for his play calling in GB.

Philly has their top three targets well- schemed and implemented in AJ Brown/Devontae and Dallas Godert.
and note how they stretch the field on go's and deep shot balls on every single game we see them.

But we don't do that with one of the game's speediest WRs in Cooks ?

The Cowboys really needed and finally attained a guy who has been out of the league for 5 years and plagued by drug issues and suspensions when he was playing. SB or bust.

His speed alone warrants 1-2 deep shots per game. If it's not open, throw it 20 yards out of bounds in his direction. It gets the Safeties thinking twice about cheating up.
