Logistics and analytics.

Well the defense seems to be working fine without him, so he will eventually get his opportunities.
After all it took the team 5 years to realize Noah Brown can actually play and contribute.

I don't understand why this is seen as a mystery. He's not good enough in the eyes of the coaches to get more playing time. I realize that the draft experts here know more than Quinn does about defensive talent and that he's letting a future HOFer languish on the bench, but that's the reason.

You don't suppose it's possible that it took time for Brown to develop? Or maybe he wasn't one of the top 3 or 4 receivers on a team with Cooper and Wilson the last couple years?

Maybe, probably some of that as to the NFL game vs. NCAA. But I watched Brown all through college. And IMO he has always had the ability. Garrett buried him, and suppressed his opportunities. And depth at WR in the past kept him down, as well he had a few years of those nagging injuries.

Bingo....the dude was a 4th rounder who missed the majority of his rookie year. Let's be patient, he was drafted as a bit of a project, and missed the majority of his development time last year. There are snaps to be had if he shows to be ready in practice, until then let's be patient. Just because he was a pet cat of a lot of fans during the draft means nothing.

The coaches don’t think he is better then LVE.

I think it’s a trust in knowing assignments. It’s fine for now, LVE will be gone next year and Cox will have a full year plus under his belt. He’s clearly faster and more athletic than LVE and as long as he picks up the mental part of the position our LB group will be even better next year with he and Clark. What a bunch of athletic freaks

It probably comes down to experience and understanding of the game/defense. Coaches are more comfortable with Barr and LVE or Cox just hasn't shown enough to warrant the playing time.

You also have yo consider this isn't a tradional 4-3, it's more of a 4-2-5 so extra dB and 1 less LB in many packages.

How was Cox a " project' at a reputable big school like LSU,.. as he was a starter for the Tigers defense,.. in the most competitive conference in college football ?

Before he was got season ending ACL injury, he reportedly had only received 8 snaps,.. and yet at this point he still hasn't surpassed JAG Luke Gifford in the rotation and depth chart ?
How has his special teams work being going ? That also could factor in playing time on the field ... or Not.

What held him back from starting at LSU? Consistency.

He was a feast or famine LB. The ultimate coaches tease. Make a great play and then be out of position on a simple play.

I don't really care what conference someone plays in they can still be a project, almost any 4th round and on player is going to be. Coming out of school by most scouting reports he was labeled as a strong coverage linebacker who was slow to process in the run game, and didnt use his hands well to get off blocks. So for him to actually receive snaps he needs to get better in certain areas. That to me is textbook definition of a project player.

I'm not calling for Cox to get on the field, but I'm not exactly eager to cut him either.

For someone that's supposed to be a ' project,' per draft time the Cowboys supposedly had a 2nd round grade on Jabril Cox, ..that doesn't sound like a project pick.

I sometimes wondering if his knee injury is more psychological now. That happens sometimes. Sometimes players never recover from their injuries.

Time will tell for Jabril Cox.

Remember the talk was he was a coverage linebacker, which means his technique against the run gets him washed out more than the others.

And his development was set back a year by his injury. I think Dallas signed Barr because Quinn didn't feel Cox was ready for a bigger role yet. Barr's role as a pass rusher/coverage linebacker is essentially the one Cox was going to play. The decision might be different if Cox had not suffered an ACL tear and the team had been able to see more of him before this preseason. On top of that, a lot of players aren't really back to normal after such an injury until their second season back.

I think fans are asking more of him than the Cowboys want to right now. It doesn't mean that he isn't going to turn into a contributor (other than special teams), but simply that Dallas could be taking its time to make sure he can thrive in that role. It's going to be like fans wanting Damone Clark out on the field immediately in place of LVE (whom many have decided isn't good). That's not likely to happen this year both because Clark is coming off injury and because he also has some things to learn about playing on this level.
