What's Holding Back Jabril Cox?

Yeah I think this is probably the biggest reason he isn't seeing more defensive snaps.. He tore his ACL.. It's fairly widely known that most players don't get back to their pre-injury selves until the second year after that surgery. The first year is really pretty much about recovery. We've all seen a few exceptions but a couple of freaks like AP does nothing to change what is the norm. Cox probably will not be back to normal until this time next year. Neither will Michael Gallup for that matter.

Thanks. I thought that was the case. And your explanation sounds perfectly reasonable.

What held him back from starting at LSU? Consistency.

He was a feast or famine LB. The ultimate coaches tease. Make a great play and then be out of position on a simple play.

He was at LSU for one year - he grad transferred out of North Dakota State. He only had one season as an FBS player.

I don't think it's the linebackers, but rather Quinn likes to play 3 safeties.
Yeah the three safeties work best against the pass. In reality you would rather your weakness to be the run. I would rather have the three safeties on the field then Barr and LVE right now. I do think maybe because the next two games are against running teams you will get more of the three little linebackers. We will find out.

I think he is perfect to spy Fields and Hurts.
If he is the player many think he is that would be a good role for him, but do we really know he has that talent? The Cowboys coaches certainly don't seem to think so.

Id play anyone over vander trash right now
I'm not propping LVE, but I don't think Cox is the MLB type. He was always touted as something of a coverage specialist and OLB

In 6 games he has given up 11 catches for 63 yards. I'm just not sure how much of an improvement you get out of Cox being in there. He's done an excellent job running with TEs up the seem and not had much of an issue keeping up with backs running routes either. LVE has been pretty bland in the run game, but yea Ill argue that he has been one of the better coverage LBs in the league this year. IDK man it seems like we are trying to fix a problem we dont have in order to get a player on the field that we have high hopes for, but no idea if he can actually play or not.
We have seen Cox be one of the best players on the field in probably half of the preseason games he has been in. Is that meaningful especially when usually against backups/cut players? Probably not, but he can only do what he is asked and it's all we have at this point. Why not give him a couple of plays to see since he is active any way? I know the NFL isn't the place to just throw guys in to evaluate them, but a couple snaps off a game may help LVE/Barr anyway, so do it on 3rd and long when your main goal is speed and coverage which seems to best match his skill set. Heck do it when the score is double digits. But let's see what he has. I've seen enough of him to think there is some ability there and a skill set that will help this team. If for no otehr reason than if we have an injury then we will be forced to play someone. Better to have a few snaps under his belt Maybe he can't learn the defense, because I can't think of any other reason

It makes absolutely no sense for Dan Quinn to keep Jabril Cox from substituting plays/series with Anthony Barr. Barr is 30 years old, has lots of wear & tear, and he's definitely on the downside of his career. Plus, he's had injuries creep up in recent years, and he's slower due to all of the above. Jabril Cox is young, talented and most definitely much quicker and faster than Anthony Barr. Cox can play both the run and the pass very well. The only thing missing is an opportunity to show his skills and get much needed experience which would help the Cowboys so much down the road as the season moves along. Dan Quinn is way up in the booth on GameDay, so it's hard to understand what he is seeing when we all see how slow Anthony Barr has been on the field. To not see Jabril Cox get at least some series alternating playing experience against lesser teams already played, plus those coming up, is very perplexing. Is this some of the downside about Quinn and why he failed at Atlanta?

To his credit LVE has stayed healthy he’s on the field but yes that drive where the Eagles ran ran ran to extend a 20-17 lead is a sign that beyond your front wall your linebacking / safety play is lacking

And where is 27 in all this ? The Kearse from early 2021 has been missing .

Cox and Damone Clark are in the not too distant future as starting LB to go with Parsons with the Barrs and Giffords the past . Devin Harper the late pick on this draft is a part of the mix coming up I suspect .

That play saved a TD and Jones led with his helmet not the defender . That’s just a troll statement but that’s to be expected .

The dirty hit saved the TD, besides one play he hasn’t done poo in the league. Just because he went to LSU doesn’t mean he is a good player.

Let’s see what happens when he “ gets on the field “ with Clark . I suspect 55 and 42 will be exiting . And again pull up the replay of the hit Jones led with his helmet and got the worst of it , no flags on the play either .

IDK....this seems a bit backward. I'd much rather play my young LBer who can be part of the future than a guy on a one-year deal. Not to mention, Barr isn't exactly lighting things up

You don’t play fit the future in the year you are going to win the SV
