What's it like to be a Cowboys fan now compared to before?

It's different. Back in the 70's, 80's and 90's I expected us to win. Nothing else was accepted. And for most of those years we did. It was bad in the late 80's but the buildup to our SB's in the 90's was fantastic. Nowadays even though I'm still a fan I don't let losses effect me as much. Back then I used to bang on the floor and such when something bad happened. Not anymore. I'm used to being disappointed. On to the next season.

Yeah. Especially the 70's. The early 90' were a certainty.

a lot less trolling and stalking from me as I've gotten older.

I remember trolling Brandon Noble back on AIM and posting our convos here on CZ.

I also remember I tried to add every Cowboys player I could on MySpace. They all added me except for Scandrick.
Me too. Very what age will do.

Why is Troy dead to you? He's too talkative as an analyst and I don't like it when he and Buck announce our games (one overcompensates for being a former Cowboy; the other is just a jerk), but I will always love Troy for what he did for us.
Amen. You ain't kiddin! Troy can say whatever he wants. He has earned that right.

We used to have more big rivalries.

When they had coaches on the other side like Lombardi, George Allen, Buddy Ryan, Parcells and other well-known coaches playing against us..

there was alot more stuff going on.

Not so much now.

This generation of coaches is less of the leaders of their teams.

They are game managers now.

Very different.
Yep. Hard to hate them now. I loathed that collossal prickk, George Allen...Fat, stupid Buddy Ryan....best not to speak poorly of the dead. Rivalry, is a lost tradition in modern sport. Sure, the bums, try to market everything. The old fans know better.

late 60's to mid 80's were great. You went into every game knowing you were the best team and had the best coach. A win was expected. Two losses/more in a row were rare. The whole team had the confidence and swagger Pearson showed at draft day at every game. Ninety's were great with triplets and the same expectation of win every week. Hopefully we're starting something now

The hate/jealousy from others is exactly the same.

We just have less to say in response. :(

The Cowboys could have easily won a couple more SBs in the 70's so I think they under achieved although I'm thrill with the 2 we won. For me the 80's were very frustrating, the Cowboys had some really good teams that came close and then they fell apart. The 90's started with a bad team rebuilding. The firing of Tom Landry left Jerry Jones a very unpopular owner of the Cowboys with it's fans. Of course, winning 3 SB in 4 years curse all.

20 consecutive winning seasons. Still a record.

Don't understand the negative views of posters towards other Cowboys fans they may run into, yet they're posting on a site full of Cowboys fans. Perhaps the most diehard on the planet.

I love Cowboys fans. The diehards. We're in this fight together. There is no bandwagon anymore, so miss me with that. We have a right to be braggadocio, we have five rings, and a history of greatness. What's wrong with that, being proud?

I've been a fan since the mid-90s. Diehard. I am depressed after a loss. A win helps make my week.

Am I weak? Nah. Just bleed for this franchise with every ounce of my being.

And I feel like some of the fans in this thread that say they don't, do in fact. :)

You beat me to it man! I was going to say, damn, some of you are stone cold. I get there are some over-the-top homer fans but you can't put us all under that umbrella. Besides, every fanbase has those types anyway. I never leave a fellow Cowboys fan in the shade.

I, too, have been a fan since the 90s. I'm very hardcore. It drives my wife nuts. She comes from a very non-watching football family, so, they don't understand my passion. However, I do have them trained. They literally plan BBQs, events, etc around the Cowboy games during the season, well, that is if they want me to attend. haha Hey, I only get 16 (hopefully more) games a year. Damn right I am going to watch them all.

The 90s were amazing, obviously.

The 2000s, the beginning years were rough, but once we found Romo, I look back and had fun watching those teams. Even though we had limited success, we had some fun teams to watch and some great players have come and gone.

The 2010s have been OK. A couple playoff appearances have been nice. I am excited for the youth injection this team is getting. It's like a new chapter is about to be written for this team.

I will forever live and breathe the Cowboys but they have probably shortened my life expectancy. Ha!
