All teams have strengths and weaknesses. There isn't a complete team in the league. It's possible we win it all in 2016 if we focused more on maximizing our strengths and minimizing our weaknesses. If we run the damn ball and shorten the time our defense is on the field we beat Green Bay. The formula could have also worked against Atlanta and New England. The running game was that good.

It would be better to upgrade talent on D and become a more complete team, but it's more likely we'll be of a similar talent level on each side of the ball in 2017, which means the only chance we've got is through coaching and play calling.

My argument for focusing on the secondary is simple. Irving Collins DLaw Crawford> A. brown OS.

We need depth and talent.

Peppers at 28!

I"ve been watching the Cowboys for 40 years. That doesn't make my opinion any more important that anyone else but I still believe the GB loss in the playoffs was due to the coaches not having the players ready. There is no reason to let even Rodgers do what he did to us. If I remember correctly, we should have run the ball more. We were down but seemed to panic with too much time on the clock..........

What good will improving talent do if plays called doesn't take full advantage of that talent? I never want to see Zeke on the sidelines on 3rd and short unless he's injured.

I wanted 30+ touches for Zeke, and said before the game I would be upset if he didn't get them. Well I'm still upset.

Coaching has something to with it, I was looking forward to Zeke not coming off the field as much, he got a huge amount of rest. And since we have lost alot of starters, that we are replacing with JAGs so far, we might need a talent upgrade at this point.

We can't even replace Free right now......Doug Free......really. I've seen nothing to be happy about this offseason other than the cap, so to just say its one thing doesn't even make sense to me right now. Cap ain't winning games in 2017.

I wanna see how many people think improving play calling is more important than improving talent.
I'd actually put that right under new talent. Hey Rod, I promise it's OK to actually blitz every once in awhile.

Had that last year.

All hands were on deck for the most part to face Green Bay.

Didn't matter at the end.

That is what was so frustrating. It was not like we limped into the playoffs.

They were rested and ready. Okay, not really ready, but you understand the point.

You have a valid point. Last season was set up beautifully for Dallas.

I really despise resting uninjured players in the final week.

I still haven't been able to get myself to rewatch the playoff game. It was a hell of a game except for the fact my team lost in dramatic fashion.

I think it's overall defensive quality, for want of a better way to put it.

You can get away with an average front 7 if the secondary is stellar, or an average secondary if the pass rush is brutalizing QBs on every snap, or being uniformly good without any real superstars that make headlines. But you can't be mediocre everywhere and expect to get very far in the playoffs. It matters less where they get better on D than that they get better on D somewhere.

Yep. The mediocrity doesn't hurt you when you're playing an offense with holes of its own, since our offense eventually make it a moot point. But when the offenses we're playing are elite, too, it shows up.

We know this, though. Nobody has any right to be surprised by the outcome in the playoffs until the team addresses it. We've seen it happen too many times by now.

The amount of time you've been watching the Cowboys is commendable yet irrelevant to the point you are making. The loss to GB in the playoffs can not be attributed to only one thing. We all see different aspects of that game that contributed to the Cowboys loss and get the blame. Some, like you say coaching, others say the offense's slow start was to blame and even others blame the fatigued defense at the end of the game... none of us are wrong.

On point & true....though added talent on the D side can help the bone-headed offensive play calling that stopped us
